Oppenheimer | Official Reaction Thread | Spoilers
Posted by RollTide1987

I just got out of the movie a few minutes ago and my goodness what a film. The visuals, the production design, the editing, the score, and the acting - all top notch. Nolan still hasn’t learned how to balance the sound and dialogue for whatever reason and I feel like the music was used a little too liberally during important exposition scenes. Beyond that, however, I thought the film was absolutely fantastic.
Be aware, however, this is a biopic through and through. While the development of the atomic bomb features heavily in the advertising, that only takes up the middle third of the movie.
Final Grade: 8.5/10

I was just about to start this thread. I loved it. Also, I personally didn’t have issues with the sound.
I was a little worried it would be politically divisive, but I feel like you would really have to reach to be offended by anything.

Curious how the real Nolan fanboys will feel about this one. Apparently it isn’t the mind bending Nolan that we’re all used to.

I saw it in IMAX. It was the only one offered? Is that different from 70 mm?

Only certain theaters (I think 19 in the country) have the 70mm IMAX. Closest one to me is in Indianapolis.

Dunkirk wasn’t very mind bending either.

If you’re not sure, you probably didn’t see it in 70mm imax. You probably saw it in Xenon.

Thanks. In that case, it’s probably safe to assume I did not see it in 70 mm.

I just looked up the 19 places with IMAX and I certainly wasn’t in one of them. I thought it looked and sounded great, though.

Maybe it was mind bending how few soldiers were on the beach?
...that he took a huge enterprise and smushed it small...And with 3 characters.
For what purpose? Time, money...tinkering obsessive creative compulsion that sticks out like a nail in most of his movies? Sometimes works, sometimes you wish he owned a hammer.

Just got out myself. Very powerful. Found myself getting emotional a couple times. I went in not knowing anything about Oppenheimer or the Manhattan project so I was clueless about him having communist ties and being demonized later on for not approving the hydrogen bomb. Both were very interesting
Nolan’s score was amazing as always. Acting top notch. It is very long and I know it will be to slow for some, my gf was miserable lol. Saw it in non 70mm imax and it wasn’t cropped like I heard it would be, it was great
MINOR SPOILERS
i thought the climax of the explosion of the bomb would be the ending. But, you have a good hour left to go that focuses on his demonization by Strauss. That part did kind of drag but I understand why it was necessary. I was very confused as to what was going on until it got closer to the end. I think if you went in blind like me it might be confusing for some to understand who Strauss is and what is going on with the prosecution in the black and white scenes

Just got out. Very good movie. Certainly worth the experience. Felt more like a bigger budget There Will Be Blood/PTA movie than a mind bending Nolan flick. Acting is off the charts and there aren’t any weak points with the cast. Maybe I’m spoiled because Nolan is my favorite director but it wasn’t this huge cinematic experience I was sort of expecting.

Absolute masterclass by RDJ in this one.

Agreed. I loved how it ended, too.
