I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to movies though, for the most part. I'm not uber-snobby film critic type, but am not a dumb spoonfed, give me hollywood crap person either.

Honestly I am, and I had a problem with the lack of Dumbledore's backstory, but honestly everything was so fricking great that I didn't really care.

SPOILER...QUESTION I THINK
So...why did they change the final fight? The movie made Harry Potter look pretty useless.

Can anyone deny that "The Prince's Tale" is certainly the best part of the entire series, both the books and the films?

I just re-read the last part this morning, and the book really was more dramatic. I don't understand the changes. It wasn't just that Harry beat Voldemort in battle, its that he asked him to show remorse and sort of publicly humiliated him as well. And Neville was lit on fire, people. FIRE. And he still drew the sword and lopped off the snake's head. That's bad arse.
Changes like leaving out the centaurs don't bother me as it was just special effects lost. Though reading the post-mortem of the battle, I think it could have been handled more thematically. Harry in the Invisibility Cloak as the camera, swooping in and checking in on each denoument, while set to some British mope rock. I thought that would've been a nice ending... Harry trying to get away from everyone and have a quiet moment alone with Ron and Hermione.

This movie series leaves a lot to be desired IMO. Even the books do.
I mean u have children doing everything. Where the he'll are all the powerful adults?
Also there is so much more that could be done with this world Rowling created.
I feel like there should be more. LOTR was more fulfilling IMO.

my huge problem has to be from reading the books. in this last installment, i want them to show so much more because of what the book told me. ive seen all the movies, but i dont remember what they've set up in the first 7 movies (only the books). so, im pretty sure the shite that i want them to discuss and show doesnt really fall into line with what they've done with the movies. basically, if they showed and had all the stuff id want, the movie only fans might be confused as frick because the previous movies didnt address a bunch of stuff. does that sound right?

As a youth, Dumbledore had similar ideals as Voldemort did in that he was actively planning on a revolution that would make Wizards rule over Muggles. He planned this with a man named Grindelwald, the Dark Lord before Voldemort (they don't have a direct connection until the 7th book though). When they were preparing to leave to start their revolution together, Dumbledore's brother Aberforth stopped them due to the fact that it would mean the neglect of his younger sick sister, who was prone to magical outbursts which could result in death. The three of them get in a 3 way duel, and accidentally kill Dumbledore's sister. Dumbledore then never sought power again due to what it cost.

I saw it this afternoon, without seeing the first half. I could not force myself to read all of the last book, after I got into it, I skimmed ahead to the climatic scenes......I enjoyed the movie far more than the book....

The rest of my comment explained. I felt like there is more they could do with the world Rowling created then a bunch of meddling kids.
I enjoyed the series, but it could have been bigger and better. But then again the way it's done could be what makes it great.

What a bawlin arse way to end a movie

Just saw it today in IMAX 3d. That shite's expensive, but makes you never want to see a movie any other way.
I liked the movie but wasn't blown away. Here are my positives and negatives:
Positives:
The first scene with Minerva was bad arse and gave me chills. I think it may have been my favorite scene.
I liked the way they handled Snape's backstory. It was incomplete, but considering time constraints, it was good.
The Gringotts entry and escape were pretty awesome.
Negatives:
Neville was not nearly as badass as in the book. Of all the characters, I think He had my favorite arch but he was sort of screwed in the movie.
The lack of Dumbledore's back story sucked. As someone else said, I hope it shows up in extended scenes.
The final fight could have been better.
Overall, I really enjoyed it.
The other negatives I had were:
Neville should have had the honor of killing Bellatrix.
The epilogue was pretty lame.
Of course, these were negatives in the book also, so we can't blame the movie-makers for these.

It's not perfect, but I really love it. A lot.
I wish the Gredalwald/Albus backstory could have been included, but it's not a neccessity in a narrative sense.
The biggest gripes: the geography towards the end -- I wish the final duel had taken place inside the Great Hall -- where Harry calls Voldemort Tom, and lays waste to his ego in front of everyone. Molly's defeat of Bellatrix is kind of lame. A lot of great actors go to waste -- Jim Broadbent should have been given more to do than just mumbling enchantments -- some of these characters needed their big moments in battle.
But other than that... Jesus Christ. I'm not one to lose it in a theater, but it was extremely diffucult not to from Snape's revalation to the use of the Ressurection Stone in the Forbidden Forest. Everyone brings their A-game, fantastic score and foreboding cinematography (especially during the last moments of the duel).
And I feel like the epilogue works better in the movie than it does in the book.
It's a great cap to the best long-running film franchise in history. Not all of the films are great (but often teetering on greatness), even the lesser films are at least solid.

Personally I think Neville was a little more badass in the film. He blows up a fricking bridge for god's sake, likely securing the highest kill count for the night at about 200+.

Anyone else think that Harry should have ended up with Luna and not Ginny? I just don't see what Harry and Ginny really have in common, especially in the films. I mean in the book she's popular and spunky... And that's really it. Harry and Luna have alot more in common and she has more positive characteristics. She's optimistic, funny, kind, honest, and interesting. Plus in both the novels and the film, it seems that Luna was the one who basically always made him feel better at his lowest points, since she can largely identify with Harry being a person who is ridiculed by others. She kinda seemed pretty perfect for him to be honest.
