I get that. They do deserve a happy ending. My problem was that in the written epilogue, she introduced a ton of characters and very carefully wrote out their entire name. I understand that everyone named their children after the important people in their lives. I just thought there was a distinct difference between the writing style she used in the novel v. the epilogue. That's why I felt it was fan-fictiony.

is the ending as rushed in the movie as it is in the book?

Actually Lucius was forced to tell Voldemort what happened to it, and Snape told Dumbledore that Lucius got punished harshly for what he did to the diary.

The characters earned that happy ending through seven books of suffering.
This is very true. As did we, the audience. Give them a happy ending, but make them work for it. (hope I got that right)

I was very conciously evoking that Capra quote.

I do agree the epilogue is pretty weak, just not for the happy ending reasons. It is said Rowling wrote that epilogue back when she wrote the first novel....

It shows. She had developed as a writer since then.

Agreed, it really feels like you're knocked back into the original novel, and I don't mean that in a positive way.

I read the book and just watched the movie..

I thought it followed the book pretty well, they nailed snape's memories part. However I am disappointed how they handled voldemort's fall. When I read the book I got chills when Harry revealed himself from under the cloak and told voldermort about the truth to the elder wand. I felt the way they did it somewhat stole the drama from the biggest moment in the series..

But overall, great series both book and movie, and I'm sad to see it end.

Btw.... Molly Weasley

I didnt like the movie at all. It was just extremely mediocre and I dont think at any point I was really into it. all of the special fx looked like shite. I thought part 1 was a lot better.

I also think I loved the books so much that there wasn't a chance I would like any of the movies and that held true. But I liked LOTR just as much when it came to the books and I loved those movies so who knows.
Eta I thought the Molly weasley/bellatrix fight may have been the weakest thing I've ever seen. That was terrible, and lasted all of 5secs

Doesn't last that long at al in the book either. Think they did fine with it.

Snape vs McGonnagol more than made up for it. That was easily the best fight in the film.

The movie should have ended with Harry unmasking Voldemort. Then Voldemort shouts, "I would have gotten away with it too, if it hadn't been for you meddling kids!"

They better make an extended edition of the Deathly Hallows. In both these films, there seems to be alot of things that are highly implied (like Voldemort's name being jinxed and Dumbledore's backstory) to where it was likely filmed and just deleted. But they should just make a single extended film out of these two parts and make it around a 6 hour film.

I thought it was very good .

I cried at quite a few parts too, and basically had goosebumps the whole time. My throat felt really tensed up during the Pensieve scene.

I plan on seeing it again in theaters. It was a lot to digest and it's sad to see the final chapter of it.

I wonder how much a box set will cost.

From what I gathered in reading the books vs. watching the movies is that the movies didn't stray too far into some of the flaws in each character.

What I mean is that by the book, Harry had the occasional outbursts, attitude, anger, hate, etc. The movie Harry didn't always show those "negative " sides of his personality. Same with Dumbledore in DH Part 2. His early life views against Muggles weren't reflected, perhaps to give a more positive viewpoint. In Snape's memories in the movie, Lilly's rejection of Snape was not shown that it was due to his interest in Dark Arts. The movies seemed to want to show everybody's good.

I feel like the movies catered to a younger, more positive crowd. And there's nothing wrong with that.

They shot sparks at each other for a few seconds than apparently one of the most powerful wizards was hit and evaporated into a million little pieces. It was terrible.

I've been wondering that too, especially the price difference between a DVD set vs. a Blu-Ray set.

If I had to guess, the Blu-Ray set could easily be $200, but since they'll release it around Christmas, they make discount it around $170 or so.

I recently purchased the LoTR blu ray extended edition box set. 3 movies, 15 total discs with all the extras. $70.

Not sure how the HP series will correlate. I haven't seen an extended edition HP movie yet. Not sure if one exists. But I recently purchased each blu ray for less than $10 each. The special editions cost something around $30-40 each.

It was what I expected. I wasn't blown away, but I wasn't disappointed either.
