Because he's campy and stupid, and a waste of time to try to make otherwise. They have also intentionally avoided any supernatural elements in any of the characters, which was why Ra's wasn't 300 years old. No, Penguin isn't "supernatural" per se, but his whole situation is just too over-the-top.

You mean no Oswald Copperpot?

just kidding. The penguin would suck, catwoman would suck, and IMO, the Riddler would suck bad unless they completely re-vamped the character and I mean no silly green suit with a mask.

I think if there is another movie, Harvey will be a main bad guy and the guy who worked for Wayne that was going to reveal who Batman was will be a sub villan. They could actually bring back scarecrow although it would be overkill. He was just arrested, not killed.

I wouldn't mind seeing a completely new adversary.

SPOILERS

The movie was pretty good. I definitely shouldn't have read the hype leading up, because it didn't live up to it. I found some of the elements to be over the top, or just annoying.

- Wayne/Bale needs to stop the different voice when being Batman. It was really cheesy and really annoying.

- Harvey's burnt face was completely and totally over the top. I would have rathered his face either be covered, or shown only for the briefest of moments, because it was ridiculous.

- Speaking of, how the frick did Harvey manage to go on a killing rampage and drink some alcohol with an untreated burnt face?

- The movie was never boring, which is surprising for a movie for it's length.

- Ledger raped.

- Hard.

- Give his people every award he was nominated for, because he made this movie. Fantastic individual role.

- Why didn't they blame Harvey's killings on the Joker instead of Batman?

Overall, it was an 7.5/10 for me. Better than Iron Man as far as best superhero movie I've seen. Overhyped a bit, but still really good.

I just saw it this afternoon and I must agree with the majority of posters on here. It was incredible.

I didn't want to leave my seat, and I had to piss for the last 45 minutes.

Ledger was incredible, best villain since Hannibal Lecter. It doesn't even look like him.

Bale was good, although the I can see how the voice thing bothers some.

Biggest thing I can say for this film is the casting was good and I think that everyone across the board did a fine job. Although, Ledger completely steals the show.

Just my two cents.

heath ledger gives us a performance of a lifetime. it is in my top 5 performances of all of cinematic history. i'm just sad that he cant give us another. every scene he was in he dominated. i have never seen someone create such a character and be so dedicated to the role he plays. this is the one movie i could watch over and over again.

when christian bale enters the role as batman he over-dramatizes everything to a point where it gets embarrassing.

there are tons of twists that will keep you guessing throughout the entire movie. 5 of 5 stars.

I liked Bale when he was Bruce Wayne much better than he was Batman. Dude is a good actor, but like y'all have been saying, he constantly over dramatizes things a bit, especially with that rasp. I guess Alec Baldwin wasn't available.

SPOILER

DENT IS DEAD! I can't see how you can see it any different. He was written in as a mortar for the city of Gotham. His beacon of light for the city is how he will be remembered. For him to live as Two-Face and come back in any way, shape, or form would tarnish that.
The fall was intended to kill him, and just as he and batman fell together as two angels falling to earth and reality (Dent = angel of light and hope for the city, batman= now a symbol darkness, evil, and villain to the citizens).
If the fall was any higher, the mess left behind would not have enabled the turning of the face that batman did when speaking with Gordon.

i read a review that makes a good point. its hard to act as batman, because you really cant sell anything without a face. the costume makes it almost impossible for him to have any emotion, which is why i think he does the voice thing.

and i really think they intended to have the joker in the 3rd movie, with maybe a few different sub villians and Dent running around. now, i dont think they do another one. at least not nolan. the studio will want one because of $$$.

quote:

there is something scarier about a sane person who enjoys the killing more

I think the other way to look at it is that he doesn't really enjoy the killing, but his thrill comes from seeing the people change into killers themselves. Point-in-case: the ferry scene. he was counting on one boat to choose to blow the other up and bluffed at blowing them both up at 12. When they called his bluff, that was his downfall. He then realized that not all man-kind was not as easily changed as he thought...

The fact is they bury him....that pretty much seals it up storywise

I may have blinked and missed it, but I never saw a burial....

All I saw was Gordon giving a memorial with a huge picture of him on the side of a building(pre Two-Face) while they were hyping him up as the savior of Gotham).

It was good, but not great IMO. The first 1/3rd of the movie was boring as hell.

Joker's "we're destined to do this forever line" tells me obviously the plan was to bring him back for the 3rd movie.

i think it will be better the second time. Very good movie. Hedger alone made it incredible.

Here were my problems with it:

1. Gyllenhall. She isnt a bad actress at all, but in all honesty she doesn't fit the role. Atleast Katie Holmes was attractive. It was borderline humurous to see them try to act like she was 'beautiful'

2. Bale's voice. I think he is a great actor, but i dont like the little voice he does. I see where he has to do it to hide his identity, but considering the guy is the most talented vocal artist on the planet, he could do better. That said, atleast he fits the role of Batman.

3. Two Face. I think they went in to a little too much with him. I'll have to catch the movie again for that though.

Outside of that, great movie.

Here's an issue I had....

Spoilers, maybe, I guess...

Two face is a whiny bitch. I just don't see him now as some bad arse villain that is supposed to take over the city. This is why I sort of don't understand where they are going to go for his character. Also, Eckhart wasn't near as bad as some of you were saying.

He was a very good 2 Face. But I think he reacted like a person in 2 face's position (the shite that happened to him) would.

do you really believe this crap? or, are you just repeating the crap you've heard from everyone for the last few months? Why don't you take a breath, relax, and think back. Now, I'm sure you can remember atleast 10 more movies where actors took over a movie. I'll even start the list for you:

1. Pirates of the Caribbean - Johnny Depp
2. The Silence of the Lambs - Anthony Hopkins
3. Forrest Gump - Tom Hanks

I'm sure you get the picture. This is just the most recent movie you've seen where an actor actually did their job, and acted well.
