People keep saying this, but I don't agree. Successful, yes, but a billion isn't a given for a movie who's only lead-in was a less than 700 Mil movie.
Avatar had a lead in with $0 and went out to gross $2 billion. This was guaranteed to hit a $1 billion, and in my estimation is probably more of a sure thing to hit it than Civil War. Civil War probably doesn't hit it honestly, even if it gets glowing reviews.

People will choose Batman more than the Avengers almost every time.

Civil War looks like it's basically Avengers 2.5. It will make 1.2-1.3 billion easily. They've announced the movie will be screened in Mid April, they're extremely confident in this film. It will put up huge numbers.

Well that's not what this is about, but if you are saying that Batman is more popular than the Avengers, yes he is. The only "Avenger" that comes close is Spider-Man.

That would put it right below AoU's $1.4 which is on the mark from Avengers 1.5, I'm just not sure people will buy it that way however. Iron Man and Avengers films have been the only one to cross $1 billion. As good as GoTG and Winter Soldier were received neither hit $800 million. I think $900 is the safe bet. $1 billion is reachable and 1.2-1.3 would be super successful.

Exactly as for the regular joe, superheros go like this in popularity.
1. Batman
2. Spider-Man
Big gap.
3. Superman
4. X-Men (Wolverine mainly)
5. Iron Man
This is my opinion, no actual facts to back this.

It's basically an Avengers movie (minus Hulk and Thor). Spiderman is the most popular marvel character, so he should be more than capable of replacing him. I can't wait to see how the movie handles 12+ characters.

I think $900 is the safe bet.

We'll we're totally derailing, but it's going to be WW, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. 10-15 minutes of screen time at best. Anyone going in expecting him to be a major player would be disappointed.

Bvs could have been more than great visuals if Synder knew how to tell a cohesive story. Man I'm pumped for the next solo Batman movie.

why are you downplaying Civil War so much? It will 100% make a billion. theres not a single doubt. especially after the spidey reveal. theres nothing holding this back.

I could agree with that if it was 15 years ago. But I am talking about the present and how RDJ has made Iron Man so big. Hulk is surely one I may have overlooked but Wonder Woman, doubt it. Her movie won't touch Iron Mans appeal.
Not talking about comic fans

If Affleck can infect it with a little bit of The Town, it could be great.
And he has to keep Snyder far far away.

so what kind of role does Lex have going forward? Even if he's sprung in Suicide Squad he obviously won't have access to Lexcorp and all of its resources.

The character of Wonder Woman is much more a cultural icon than the Hulk. This isn't just about the audience of young moviegoeers but about their parents and grandparents as well. Her movie will surpise you with the reaction it will get. I'm not talking about how good or bad it is, but the general public's awareness and media. Most non-comic fans had no idea who Iron Man was until the movie, but Wonder Woman has been imbedded in the public consciousness for 75 years.

Little to none in this universe. Probably for the best.
ETA: That's what sucks. They've played all of their Superman cards. Clark is dead. Lex is in jail. There's just nowhere to go with Superman in the traditional sense. He's been pushed aside. Pretty much a plot device, IMO.

Marvel has what now, 14 films. 3 have hit $1 billion. 2 Avengers and 1 Iron Man Movie.
Nolan hits 2 films with $1 billion under the Batman franchise after a lead in of $335 million. That's what the power of property does. Even with a successful Avengers film, none of the follow-ups hit hit that magic number. I would assume it doesn't change for Civil War (and the reception to IM3 may have decreased the value of RDJ just ever so slightly.)
