Just watched I'm Still Here. I found it entertaining but I'm surprised Phoenix would be willing to do that. That was pretty risky stuff. The whole movie had an odd feel. Like you knew it was a joke, but they absolutely refused to admit it. They even reference the fact that people are accusing them of it being a hoax and go out of their way to deny it. I thought that was really unnecessary. Why try to shove it down your throat that it's real just to admit it's not eventually. His offensively bad raps and a few of the over the top scenes gave it away. Making people think it's real just kind of ruins the brilliance of it IMO. If you watch it realizing it's an act, you appreciate his acting and his ability to portray the mid life crisis. If you think it's real, I'd imagine you'd just think he was fricking weird and borderline despicable. Choosing the latter was an odd choice to me.

it is Exit Through the Gift Shop - brilliance

Since there has been a request I am thinking about adding instant view television shows. However I will only add them if the seasons are available on instant.

Bigger, Stronger, Faster (Documentary)

I'm a bit surprised no one has mentioned it yet (maybe I just missed it.)

Very interesting documentary on steroid use in America. Going in, I thought it would be a hit piece on athletes, but it was quite the opposite.

I would definitely recommend it to people who like documentaries.

The White Ribbon

A very dark foreign film shot completely in black and white. Very heavy symbolism about the state of the world just prior to World War I.

It's very long and subtitled so you have to devote yourself to it.

While I was a bit disappointed in the ending, it is a very well made film.

Louie: Season 1. So hilarious and intelligent.

Also, I don't see it on the main list and don't know what category to put it on but Eraserhead should be added. Start CULT category?

Dark Crystal and Labyrinth should both be in the puppetry/claymattion category. Also all seasons of Fraggle Rock and Jim Henson's Storytellers.

Larry Sanders and Kids in the Hall if you add a TV section. They're fringe in terms of what this thread is about in terms of popularity, though.

I'd also add Party Down. S2 has been on for a while, but they JUST added S1 within the past week. I'm 3 episodes in, and it's fantastic.

Not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread but I just watched "Mongol," which is about the early years of Genghis Khan and I really enjoyed it.

Definitely recommend it.

I watched "Exam" the other night and it was fantastic. Probably the best "hidden gem" movie I've found on Instant Streaming yet.

It's a U.K. low-budget thriller that is really, really well made.

The plot:
A mysterious and powerful corporation has reached the final stages of its interviewing process. Eight candidates enter a windowless room. A man in a suit gives them eighty minutes to answer one simple question. There are just three rules to stick to or face disqualification: 1) Don't talk to the man or the armed guard by the door. 2) Don't spoil your exam paper. 3) Don't leave the room.
Definitely check it out if you like thrillers/mysteries.

I broke up the first page a bit, hopefully it makes it easier for people to find what they are looking for and it makes it easier for me to make changes.

I'm too lazy to read all the posts so please excuse repeats.

Comedy:

Outsourced- movie thats the basis of the tv show.
Cash back- my favorite "hidden gem". Excellent movie from England. Part rom-com part smarmy British comedy.

On a similar note- coupling... The show friends was based on is f'ing fantastic. No topic untouched, much better than friends.

Sic/fi- the mutant chronicles surprised me. I watched thinking guilty pleasure B scifi flick. It's very well done al la 5th element meets 300.

Penelope is good movie for date night.

Doctor horribles sing along blog
Firefly is one of my favorite tv shows ever made
Avatar- the cartoon is excellent.

Foreign
Chocolate

Let the right one in.
