Netflix has said it will invest $2.5BN in South Korean series, films and unscripted shows over the next four years.

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos made the statement during a meeting at Blair House in Washington with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, who is currently in the U.S. on a state visit.

Sarandos said $2.5BN is twice the amount Netflix has invested in South Korea since it launched in the territory in 2016. It was since had global success with shows including Squid Game, The Glory and Physical 100.

“We were able to make this decision because we have great confidence that the Korean creative industry will continue to tell great stories,” said Sarandos. “We were also inspired by the President’s love and strong support for the Korean entertainment industry and fuelling the Korean wave.

My wife really liked the show Attorney Woo. She's not much of a TV watcher and binged the whole series.

That's all I got.

As long as they bring in some more legit korean horror movies, I'll allow it.

It’s the trick to get non woke shows. Just have some non white write, direct and star in them

The wife and I have been watching Korean shows for a while now. They produce a lot of good content and it isn't filled with all the woke, DEI, alphabet soup people bullshite that Hollywood has become. Korean shows and outdoor reality shows (Alone, Race to Survive: Alaska, etc) are about all we watch these days.

I see little sprinklings here and there in the newer shows but so far it’s been kept to a minimum. Also they don’t mind poking fun either. Like Itaewan Class had a tranny and a black guy. They did kind of minimally take on trans rights but on the other side they all acted like they’d never seen a black guy before, he couldn’t possibly be Korean (he was half) and that he must speak English (he didn’t). It was all handled in a fun way whereas the US would have people crying on Twitter about racism.

South Korean shows as a whole are better than anything being made elsewhere but especially Hollywood.

I'm going to become a digital nomad within the next 5 years. South Korea is truly one of the places I most look forward to staying a few months.

If this means more shite like Alice in Borderland, I'm for it. That show was incredible.

Squid Game too, but AiB is legit fantastic television.

Alice in Borderland,

Think that's the next show I'm going to watch. Is it complete after two seasons? I know that's the end of the source material.

They seemed to put a few pieces in place at the end that seemed like a "just in case we make season 3" move, but I hope they don't. Season 2 of Alice in Borderland wrapped up the story pretty well.
