re: My Movie Theater Experience

We have a really nice AMC about 20 minutes from our house but it is in a pretty shady area of town. However, the theater itself is very well maintained and cleaned, the screens are always bright and the pictures are crisp.

We have a MUCH newer showbiz cinemas by us which is only 10 minutes from our front door, but the fake leather seats are falling apart, half of them don’t even recline anymore. The picture is hazy and the screen bulbs just aren’t bright anymore, we’ve asked management about it and they don’t seem to know anything saying all those decisions were for corporate, but it seems like each time we go to showbiz are less and less people there.

Very disappointing.

The cost of seeing a movie in the theater is outrageous. Lots of people on this board are in denial about it. It's very rarely worth the cost.

My biggest complaint with some theaters. Man get the sounds right. YOu have the equipment. Just get some one to tune it

I have done more than one diatribe on this, one very recently here. It really isn't a Nolan problem his sound design is EXCELLENT.

The problem is two fold:

1. Commercial theaters are so large (even the small ones) that it makes every seat compromised in some way with sound just due to the physics of sound and large room acoustics.

2. Soundtracks are meant to be played at reference level. It is an industry standard designed to make sure the sound is reproduced at roughly the same volume in each theater. The problem is when action movies or any movie with a large dynamic range are played at reference level you get a group of people complaining. Just like the OP when he says "The audio during intense scenes was literally so loud it became highly annoying". So theaters turn the sound down, and then things like the dialog, mainly reproduced by the center channel speaker, get drowned out anywhere in the theater except the center section in the very front of the theater.

I would like to assume this is a post in good faith but have my doubts.

13 bucks for a movie isn’t a bad deal, maybe just go on Tuesdays or during the day for now on. For the people that go more than once every 20 years, a rewards account to your favorite local theater is worth it if you attend frequently.

I have a pretty nice home theater set up and I still enjoy going and seeing something on a bigger screen and louder sound system. I would also double check and see what format you’re going to see a movie in, for Cinemark XD is their best picture and sound. It’s fine to watch the regular screens but I try and only see comedies and lower budget movies on those screens.

Prices are up for everything. You spent 13 bucks a ticket for 3 hours of entertainment, that’s not a bad deal. No one checks bags or even cares anymore at this point if you sneak in a drink or snack, just buy the right combo.

Biggest complaint about theaters is other people. As far as the movie goes, I wasn’t the biggest fan either but still a pretty good time overall.

In the previous thread about this, I gave a few options that provide more value than a movie theater, for a comparable cost. I didn't even do a web search for "cheap entertainment options" to find them. They were just off the top of my head.

You people are delusional.

The price of concessions will always be high. It is how the movie theater makes money. The movie theater gets shite return from the actual tickets. They rent the movie to show. Now with streaming, the movies are staying not as long as they used to stay in the theater.

Why do you both need your own popcorn? Just buy the bigger one and split. Usually has at least 1 free refill. Or could not buy concessions. Sneak in own snacks or drinks. I don't see the need to bitch about prices if you paid for it.
