The overall plot of The Ref was fairly cliche and silly - I'm not going to say it was "terrible" - but close enough to your hypo to count - mainly because the wonderful cast just nailed it - Leary's best film performance, casting Spacey and Judy Davis as a couple was absolutely BRILLIANT and they delivered. The writing and acting of this dark(ish) comedy gets an A+.

Completely disagree. The premise is fricking fantastic. The execution was campy, standard 80s crap. Didn't see the new one, but Red Dawn is a spectacular concept, imo.

Calm down, Money. Either go watch Nothing But Trouble or join me in the upcoming MSB thread "St. Louis Cardinals are More American than Sweet Tea."

Basically any good movie that uses a McGuffin as a plot driver.

The Big Lebowski
Dude Wheres My Car?

Ill add one that i thought would be terrible but killed it. Pirates of the Caribbean. Imagine if they announced "Its a Small World" movie and then it went on to become a top 10 grossing movie franchise of all time.

It's a Small World is without a doubt the scariest ride in the world.

A movie rendition would be horror for sure.

But Seinfeld wasn't actually about nothing. The early episodes were about how a comedian gets his material and the later episodes were about ridiculous social customs and such.

They should've named it "Graboids."

My contribution would be Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
