Sounds right.
Concept is that four guys (Emilio Estevez, Cuba Gooding Jr, Paul Giamatti, Steven Dorff) try to go to a boxing match and end up in the hood caught up in a drug execution by a dealer named Fallon (Denis Leary).
Fun little film and a lot of cast members famous down the road.
As far as other hidden gems, I have another one which had a rep for being divisive. People tend to love it or absolutely hate it.
Smokin Aces is a chaotic mess (in a good way) in which the FBI is trying to flip a stage magician turned mobster named Buddy “Aces” Israel to help break the mob. While this is going on, a legendary mob boss sends a call that he wants Israel’s heart and puts out a contract for a hefty amount of money to get it.
What follows is the FBI trying to protect Israel and stop the hitmen while various teams of hitmen attempt to storm Israel’s penthouse in Lake Tahoe.
Cast includes but is not limited to Ryan Reynolds, Ray Liotta, Ben Affleck, Alecia Keys, Matthew Fox, Nestor Carbonell (Richard Alpert on Lost, Batmanuel on Tick, mayor of Gotham in Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises), Chris Pine, Thomas Flanagan (Chibs from Sons Of Anarchy) and others
The best description I have heard of Israel is “Frank Sinatra in the 60s if he did drugs”, as he is a Vegas performer inexplicably friendly with the Mob, eventually turning to crime, and there are hookers all over the place left and right while he lives an opulent lifestyle.

Saw Smokin Aces in the theater.
My most random movie I saw in the theater was Grandmas Boy. No one paid to see that movie except for me and maybe 30,000 other folks in the United States.

Can’t even remember the name of the most random thing I saw in the theater.
It was a 3D animated Star Wars style movie in the mid-80s. I’ve found the name since then but it apparently has a rep as one of those movies people saw and then totally forgot, probably because I don’t think it got a home video release.
Main thing I remember is little fairies or spirits on screen. One of them got into the robot guard’s head so he shot himself trying to kill it.

Big Trouble
It was supposed to release in September 2001, but was delayed due to 9/11. It released months later with basically no marketing and was only in theaters for a short time. It seems like I was one out of maybe five people who actually saw it in theaters.
It's dumb, but I always thought it was a fun movie with a great cast.

Jeremy Piven not Paul Giamatti. I loved Judgment Night

Oops.
Seemed like it was Giamatti and he had plenty of those kinds of parts back then.

The Negotiator with Kevin Spacey and Samuel L. Jackson is one of the first I think of with Giamatti in that era in a role like you say

Man, I loved Trespass. Reading about it now on wiki, so many things I didn’t know about the movie/filming.
I need to check out Headhunters, thanks.
Most random movie, I’ve ever seen in the theaters was Croupier. I had a couple of hours to kill and it was the only movie that was about to start. All I knew was that a croupier is a card dealer and I liked gambling so I said frick it and gave it a shot. I liked it so much I took my dad to go see it w/ me a few days later.
Granted, Clive Owen went on to be a huge star, but I def did not know who he was back then.

On the subject of Trespass, I like the film but I have more and more respect for the director, Walter Hill, as time goes on.
He used to be a script doctor in Hollywood, including doing work on Aliens and other scripts (Star Wars I believe but can’t confirm). Once he started directing, he made a bunch of stuff I ended up loving like 48 Hrs, The Warriors, and Brewster’s Millions.
Was not a fan of Last Man Standing, though, which was his take on Yojimbo.

if it wasn't for the fact this is a louisiana board i would list 'southern comfort' and 'the legend of boggy creek'.

I could not believe it was co-written by Robert Zemeckis, of Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, to name a few, fame.

Both great ones. I have a good appreciation for Shane Black between Last Boy Scout, Lethal Weapon, and Predator.
