It is rare (IMO) for a movie to equal or surpass the book upon which it is based. I will admit that I am a lover of books. What are some movies that IYO were better than their original books?

I submit:

The Godfather

It's actual title is "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption". It's a novella in a collection titled Different Seasons. It's actual based on a story by Tolstoy titled God Sees the Truth, But Waits.

It is excellent if you want to read it. The movie is also outstanding which you all already know, but I can't say the movie is better than the story. Just as good? Absolutely

I knew that would cause a reaction. Let me clarify. I enjoyed the movie better than the book. I just think it was very well done and the acting was phenomenal. Stanley Kubrick knocked it out of the park.

The film is phenomenal. Kubrick is phenomenal. But my main reason for preferring the book is because it has the full story, whereas the movie is based off of the American version.

The book was more exciting for me because you had to adapt to their language and culture to understand what's going on.

Both are some of my favorites in each type of literature though

It was written by Steven king and the movie is a lot more detailed than the book...short story
Andy is a small mousy man in the book with hidden fortitude...

It is the only movie I liked better than the book
