Honestly, I think we missed on the Matrix, but it went against Die Hard too early. It SHOULD have been in the Final 4 over everything except for Predator and Die Hard.

As incredibly awesome as Die Hard is, and it's an almost perfect action movie, T2 is just....different. There was nothing really like it and it took the genre beyond what was previously possible IMO. Just the story, the characters, the acting, the action, the SFX, everything was just incredible and hit on basically all notes.
There's maybe an arguable slight downgrade for not being original (since it's a sequel), but it reinvents itself and is completely different from the original in almost every way (since the original is basically a horror movie anyway). And turning Arnold into a hero instead of the big bad was brilliant.
Ultimately, these two most likely deserve to be in the final, and it sort of just comes down to personal preference for me. And while I absolutely love both movies, I like T2 more I think, so it gets my vote.
All this. If Die Hard wins, I get it, it's a deserving winner, but T2 is just more enjoyable to watch for me. It's story is getting hated on for being one note but let's not act like it's going up against Schindlers List or something
Clearly Predator is the boards honorable mention. I mean one dude started a Predator thread saying this tournament is crap because Predator isn't in the finals. It's almost like the matchup was open for almost a week and he didn't even vote in it.

As always, thanks for doing this and staying on top of it.
I think best movie villains might be a good tournament to do at some point. Could be kind of cool to have matchups like Oddjob from Goldfinger vs Sid from Toy Story.

Well the GOAT villain is in my sig, so that tournament may be a waste of time.
(It's Phillips from The Sandlot for those on mobile)

I think The Matrix definitely went too early, but it had a tough seeding. Trying to think of what my perfect final four would have been. Something like:
The Matrix
T2
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
The 4th pick is tough. Since it was fair game, I might have Tombstone in there. Maybe Goldfinger or Kill Bill.

If we DO have that poll, we need to set good parameters. Are we voting for "best villain" or "coolest villain" or "scariest villain," etcetera.
IMO, we ran into that problem with the "most beautiful and sexiest actress" poll. The "most beautiful" may not have been the "sexiest." Here, the "coolest" villain is clearly Gruber, but he is certainly not the "scariest."

Predator should have won for this one scene alone.

I in no way think this is the best. Just the best of the two that made it

I love Die Hard, but the answer is clearly T2 for me.
