The Simpsons are the original great adult cartoon

Do the Flintstones not count as an adult cartoon, even though it was a primetime show? Maybe it was more of an all ages show.

I feel like someone from Seinfeld should be listed, and if I had to choose one I guess it would be George. George was basically the show, right? He was loosely, or maybe even tightly, based around Larry David.

No, it would still have to be Jerry, I mean it's technically his show. You gotta put the "lead" guy up their, not just peoples favorite

I don't know how Frasier is in this...he doesn't come across as all that impactful or memorable.
Because he has been in like 500 episodes on two extremely succesful TV shows.

I never thought Seinfeld was all that and feel the same way about all those guys.

Why? The show is called "Seinfeld", but what made the show were George's (and Kramer's) characters.

Anyone second the motion for Andy Taylor? Definitely an iconic character.

I disagree. I'd put George. There's never been another character like him and he was the source of most of the plot and humor.

I get what you're saying, but I guess I would equate him to some NFL player on the offensive line that had a long career. Like Willie Roaf...would you put Willie Roaf on the Mount Rushmore of the NFL?

You're missing the point. Jerry was the show, but George was/is on of the greatest TV characters of all time.

Seinfeld was perhaps the first postmodern sitcom. It was the "show about nothing" where instead of wacky or deep issues driving the humor, it was the random silly minutiae of life. This had never really been done before and it's something that pretty much every sitcom since has attempted to emulate to some degree.

You can watch HIMYM or even AD and see shades of Seinfeld all over the place.

The Simpsons and Seinfeld together were the two shows that took us out of the cheesy 80s and changed tv forever. They invented 90s irony that still exists today.

I'm not saying he should be a guaranteed lock, but I don't think he is out of the discussion so easily.

Adults were the original target audience for The Flintstones. The show was sponsored by Winston cigarettes the first two seasons

It just wasn't for me. If I find myself disliking the characters, then I usually don't watch the show.

Just because I have a different opinion doesn't mean I'm missing the point.

Omar Little is my favorite TV show character of all time but I don't think he should be on the Mt. Rushmore of TV characters; that's reserved for characters that made a large impact on TV.

George made a great impact, but without Jerry there is no show. Honestly it's hard to put a single Seinfeld character up their, which is why I chose Jerry if I'm going Seinfeld

Lucy and Homer are locks.

The rest is personal preference.

Funny you should say that. It was the first amoral sitcom. The characters were all bad people. This had never really been done before either. Today we have the extreme of this - Always Sunny and Workaholics. These shows are directly derivative of Seinfeld.

This is what I don't understand. I think that just because the show is named after Jerry Seinfeld, he shouldn't be the poster child for it. George was that show and was one of the greatest television characters of all time. Just because the show wasn't called "Costanza" doesn't mean George isn't impactful.

A show about George with no Jerry would still be great.

A show about Jerry with no George, not so much.
