Maybe don’t remake 10-year-old movies?

Moana is probably my 7 year old's favorite movie and she gets angry when she see this trailer because "why does Maui look so weird?" and she says she does not want to ever see it

There is my anecdote

"How about we make the same exact movie but remove all the parts that make it good?"

It would be a surprise if it bombs. It will probably make money, but not like the original.

I just don't understand the concept of a live action remake, especially when it comes to children's fantasy movies.

It's never going to have that same magic and life that animation can provide.

I bet it breaks even in box office, or just misses.

But the retail/merchandise/etc. from the Moana franchise spikes a lot. More people will watch the original too because of this on streaming.

I don't think box office means as much as people think these days. They don't ever intend to lose money, but breaking even and getting other revenue jump started is a good outcome for Disney.

I mean look at that shot of The Rock. CG backdrop, shitty/flat studio lighting, horrible wig

Terrible

This. Wayyyyy too soon to do this. Give me Moana 3 before this. Hell, give me live action Frozen before this.

With that said, Disney should stick to animation. Who is this movie for?

Costing 200 million…

Each of The LotR trilogy movies cost less than 100 million.

But that was 25 years ago!

Yeah, and look at what it gave us. A huge cast, massive, large scale military battles, epic sword play, practical FX intermixed with peak CG that revolutionized the industry like Jurassic Park had done in the 90’s…

Why does Maui look so old? Do Demigods age?

I love Moana. It is great and easily one of the better recent animation movies from Disney.
That said, this one seems to leave a lot to be desired. I think they made it while the Rock is still “young enough” to pull Maui off bc yes it seems too soon for this version.

I liked the Cinderella live action that they did. And their Cruella movie with Emma Stone was solid.

I think when you have ones that are heavily reliant on non-human characters or heavily magic elements, it's just not going to work well.

The shittification of CGI (and how its used) post LOTR is an industry wide issue.

The charm of the animation is like 90% why these movies are even good to begin with.

These live action versions shite just look creepy and fake.

The volume stages are going for 1/2 off, probably more.

I don't understand the point of these, but at least the actors look the part this time. I guess there's no reason to race swap when the main characters are already "people of color."
