But man, the first one was just so great. I don't know if maybe people are viewing the movie in a "now mindframe" rather than a 1996 one, but at the time it was pretty groundbreaking stuff with some of the stuntwork.

The first one is a great movie. It is not as "kinetic" as the last 3, but it also has a more intricate plot and serious tone.

Simon Pegg's comic relief is unnecessary and detracts from the movies. He could be completely dropped/replaced and the movies wouldn't suffer.

One was ok, two was really bad. Three with Phillip Seymour Hoffman was fantastic...Four - Six are on another world.

Well said.

I listen to a ton of podcasts and anytime an actor brings up Tom Cruise they say hands down he’s the most professional actor in the business. First one there and the last one to leave. Makes everyone elevate their game.

He’s professional with everyone on set. Dude shows up to do his job and treats everyone with respect. Saying that, he sometimes gets too intense and goes nuts on the director or DP about a shot setup he doesn’t like. So he definitely acts like a diva at times, but his good qualities outweigh the bad, at least from my experience.

I didn’t care for it as a teenager, but I didn’t appreciate intricate plots because I was a… dumb teenager. I did have enough taste to realize Mi2 was hot crap.

I watched usual suspects as a teenager and thought it was boring and then watched it with my teenager a few months back and loved it this time.

He liked it too but I introduced my kids to headier movies at a younger age. I didn’t know about many movies other than summer blockbusters and Disney growing up.

I'm watching Ghost through Fallout again because why not? Tom and this franchise have only gotten better with age.

I did not realize there have been so many MI movies. I don't think I've seen any of them past the third one.

This. I'm gonna check them out on P+ soon.

Will I likely be lost jumping in with Dead Reckoning? I think I have seen maybe the first one or two but don’t remember anything about them.

Just saw another trailer for Dead Reckoning and it says part 1 on it. Didn't know that, but I'm in.

Because of this thread I went back and watched Fallout and googling all the stunts he actually did. He didn't do all of them, but goddamn it's one after another that is so crazy.

I think the HALO jumps are probably, or they have to be, the most impressive with how many he did. And, how they fabricated all new equipment for the suit and his helmet so you can see his face. Pretty incredible.

I always thought they messed up killing Emilio Estevez. He would have been great in the series

I did a rewatch of the series before Fallout came out and actually never even ended up going to see Fallout. Guess I’m going to have to do it again but actually go see the new one this time

99% after 150+ reviews is just astonishing for any movie much less a big budget summer blockbuster

Just got out from seeing this (Wal Mart early screening). No spoilers, but I really enjoyed it. It’s a lot of fun. Some great call backs to the first movie. Hayley Atwell is fantastic.

Same.

Had a chance to see it today, and it is a very good entry in the series. Action shots were great and, except for a few times, it looked practical.

Hayley Atwell is a very welcome addition to the team, and so damn easy on the eyes.

Plot-wise, the story is certainly relevant in today's world, and part 2 should be a whole lot of fun.

There was an early showing at a local theater today that was 95% sold out by the time I checked it. Only single seats or front row were still available.

I’ll wait but it’s on my list.

Doing a rewatch of the series, half way through Ghost Protocol, should finish up by the weekend

I know Cruise is pissed about losing premium screens after just one week because of Oppenheimer.
I didn’t know this! Makes sense though. I just bought my ticket for Thursday since I’ll be out of town this weekend. I thought I had more time to watch it on IMAX/GTX, but I’ll just treat myself to a birthday present. I’m looking forward to both MI and Oppenheimer.

Binged the last 3 movies over the weekend and loved all of them. So much fun. My girlfriend really enjoyed them as well. We are going to check out the new on this week or next week.

My son and I saw it today. It’s right up there with the last several. The only thing o thought was a little weak was the bad guy. He didn’t have much charisma. Hayley Atwell is stunning. I haven’t seen an actress eat up the camera like that since the original Wonder Woman.
