frick Roland emmerich
frick China
And frick this movie
Midway is one of the most important battles in American history and deserved more than this pile of cgi fluff .
Also hated how the The Doolittle raid was shoehorned in because they had to include Chinese actors somehow

WTF did you expect? I enjoyed it for what it was, but I went in knowing it wasn't going to be 100% accurate or Oscar caliber.

Get ready for 1917 to rescue you.

Stupid people said it was good

I could tell from the ads it would not be great. As long as the cinema industry bows to China we will never get a good factual war movie again. I hate people that value special effects and taking money over history.

Whether or not you liked the movie, Dunkirk didn’t bow down to China with crappy cgi and explosions

Why would there be?

It's a Roland Emmerich movie. It was destined to suck.

Well I’ll give it a pass because it was made by Christopher Nolan. But you could tell that it would be a good film from trailers, trailers for this movie looked extremely cheesy. You could tell from the get go this would be a big bucks mindless movie, not a serious portrayal of what really happened. I’m hoping 1917 will be like the latter.

This was so glaringly slapped in only to put in Chinese actors and for China to shite on Japan at every chance it can get.
The film should have been 3+ hours a la Tora Tora Tora, but it was a 2:15 min narrative mess (I presume it was that short due to studio demands) .. And 15-20 minutes was the Doolittle-China junk that had no place in the film.
They also I guess couldn't find an American actor apparently to play the main pilot. Ed Skrein had one of the worst accents of all time for half the movie whwn he was trying to do that terrible thing where brits try to talk with Brooklyn/NY accents and it sounds like they have speech impediments. About halfway through he clearly abandoned the Brooklyn thing and just resorted to a shitty normal fake American accent

i liked it, wasn't as good as the first one

Having not seen the movie I can't comment on the amount of time the Doolittle raid took up but almost every book and doc on Midway will include the Doolittle raid. The raid is what moved the US's 4 operational carriers a priority target for the enemy. While the raid was mainly a publicity win for the US it enraged the Japanese because several of the bombs landed on the grounds of the Emporer's palace.
This gave Yamamoto the evidence they needed to attack the US carrier fleet again and completely destroy them. This galvanized the entire Japanese Navy behind him. This was the impetus to lure Nimitz's fleet out of Pearl to destroy them. To do it he decided to invade Midway.
IMO and most historians opinions the Doolittle raid is a very important prelude to the battle of Midway.

Because they were our allies in WWII. And why would the Chinese, who were occupied at the time, have planes in Europe?

Looks like a shitty Hollywood Michael bay bang bang and explosions representation of a historical event. Very disrespectful

What? You need to re-read his post.

No, I don't. The Chinese were occupied by the Japanese. "Occupied by" means the Japanese had invaded and had control of their lands. Why would the Chinese have planes in Europe, where Dunkirk was set?

You're mis-remembering the run time of Tora! Tora! Tora! by quite a bit. That film was only 10 minutes longer than Midway (2019).

You need to re-learn your World War II history. Midway doesn't happen if not for the Doolittle Raid.
