Is he going to overtake Ken Jennings and James Holzhauer?

He has a strong game and starts out fast which I think cause his opponents to mentally check out. What I don't like is they continually let him use the wrong pronouns when answering questions...for example...."What is Abraham Lincoln?," when it should be 'who'. He also often has a long pause after the pronoun and before the answer, but I guess it's within the time limit.

I wish Alex was around to see it....RIP Alex.

He’s obviously Uber intelligent but I think he has a high functioning level of autism by his speech and mannerisms.

its not against the rules. the answer must only be a question the grammar/word choice being irrelevant. so it would be very odd if they disallowed his word usage.
he could start with "is it...." for every answer instead. he could say "when's abraham lincoln" "which abraham lincoln"

They give you the answers to questions that you must provide in Jeopardy!

I don't see how, "This Republican famously debated Stephen A. Douglas in a bid for the open Senate seat of Illinois" is an appropriate answer for "When is Abraham Lincoln?"

Interrogative pronouns... yup. Definitely wrong usage. More annoying than anything else though.

its not about making sense as a sentence. it just has to be the form of a question so any question is an appropriate answer.

Q - "This Republican famously debated Stephen A. Douglas in a bid for the open Senate seat of Illinois"
A - "Didn't I have a zebra named Abraham Lincoln?"
A - "Should Abraham Lincoln?"
appropriate answers for the game although may not be acoustically pleasing and might make you seem like a sociopath

I would think anyone who's won more than 4-5 games of Jeopardy is probably autistic

Money wise, he has a long way to go to catch Holzhauer and Jennings. He has about 40% of what James won in regular games. Number of games, he may well pass Holzhauer in the next two weeks. He is not even half way to Jennings' number of wins.

Amodio is at 893k over 25 games.

Holzhauer was at 2.4m in 32 games

Man, every time I am in a Jeopardy! thread it feels like I'm the only one who actually liked Ken Jennings. I'm not sure where all his hate comes from.

I assume this dude skips around the board and hunts for the DJs as well? And does this dude go all in on DJs like James always did? Because that's how you get into the big money.

I think it was last week a guy answered using " Is it_____?" never heard that before, I think he buzzed in prematurely and then wasn't sure of the answer so it kind of sounded like he blurted out what he was thinking in his head trying to come up with the answer, but I guess it was in the form of question

Pretty sure his answer was correct, too.

I like Ken a lot; and in general he is well-liked by other former contestants, too. Holzhauer, not at all. Even before he was on the show he had a bad history in the trivia community due to his participation in trivia tournaments and such.

I was in New York on vacation a couple of years ago and met up with about 10 fellow Jeopardy! alums to play pub trivia. They all expressed a general dislike of James. In attendance that night was a young lady (another out-of-towner like me) who was going to play in the Champions tournament against him; another alum asked her to "kick his smarmy arse".

Matt usually starts at the bottom (getting the big money) and works his way across and up. On the Daily Doubles in the Jeopardy round he usually bets it all; but never saying "true daily double", or "all of it", or "all in"; always just clearly stating his current amount.

Once he has a considerable lead, early on in his run he usually bet a very moderate amount on later-in-game Daily Doubles ($2000, $5000) but recently he has been upping those to $5000-$10,000.

Because that's how you get into the big money.

Once of the more telling things about Holzhauer's level of success is in that link provided earlier. He has not only the highest single game winnings of all contestants; he has ALL of the top 10 single game winnings records:

He always starts at the bottom and knocks out the 1k/2k clues first but then does look for the daily doubles. Always goes true daily double on the first one and the next two, if he gets them, are based on how much the other 2 have.

that's cool insight for sure, but (not knowing anyone personally so this is worthless) i still think it's a little bit of jealousy. james also approaches things like a competition (which it is) and is aggressive about it. this rubs people who dont know him the wrong way.

i can definitely see the trivia population not liking that. by all accounts that ive read and heard, he is a legitimately good person and treats people well. that's all that really matters to me.

in fact, someone saying to "kick his smarmy arse" in front of a bunch of other people but behind james' back honestly makes me think less of that person, not less of james.
