I agree S3 is underrated but I think it helped itself by following the terrible second season. Season 1 is in goat territory imo. Not saying Mare is in that category but could be close if ending pays off.

It’s fricking John, he convinced Billy to take the fall but Billy is having second thoughts. John took him up to that cabin to kill him and blame it on suicide. John is going to be in the pic, which is why Chief looked shocked.

That’s my take at least, but I still don’t know what Dylan has to do with it and why he’s acting like such a douche with the journals and that other girl.

But it's Billy who the father caught full of blood.

I still think John convinced Billy to cover, he was ditching the body for him and got covered in blood.

This makes sense. Notice the receipt of the pendant didn’t have a first name of the buyer?

The only explanation for Dylan’s behavior is he wants to destroy evidence of the real father so his parents have a better chance of retaining custody (and maybe he actually grew to love the kid???).

For the last couple of weeks, I've been convinced Billy was the father, and maybe he wanted to continue the relationship and killed her in a fit of rage because she was trying to cut him off. But now I'm convinced that John is definitely involved in some way because of how this week's show ended. Is John the father and Billy killed her for him or is my first intuition correct? OK so calling it now. John is the father, Billy killed her for him, because She either threatened to tell or John just wanted her out of the way. Billy is tied of John screwing up, that's why he is so pissed about the new affair, but I belive the son saw John with Erin and told Lore it was the other woman because that's what she asked! John is planning on killing Billy to keep it all hush hush!

With all that said the big plot hole is the paternity test. It would have shown Erin and the father were related!

First, why the frick would Billy do that? The show has given us nothing to indicate Billy has a reason to take the fall for first degree murder.

Second, Billy was the one caught with blood all over him.

Finally, wasn’t John at the engagement party the night of the murder and the one who brought drunk Frank home?

Unless the show has done a massive head fake (ie John somehow fit the murder in the night of the party, then had Billy cover it up) it’s tough to fit this idea in with what we’ve been given.

I think Billy definitely killed her. The only question is is he also the father? Or is John involved in that he was the father and Billy somehow ended up actually killing her.

My best guess is he’s trying to cover up the identity of the father (he probably assumes that info was written in her journals) so he can keep the baby. They implied heavily earlier in the series he and his parents have grown attached to it.

I’m starting to think John may be the father as well. When Billy came in the house after John and their father were moving the bed upstairs, he went off on John talking about fixing his own messes. We assume he’s talking about John’s affair but he may be alluding to being Erin’s baby daddy.

As someone else said, maybe Billy killed Erin who was gonna go public about the baby but maybe he was just moving the body for John. John had the alibi planned with Frank’s party. He has the pic of Frank passed out, which also means no one was watching him so he could have slipped away at some point too. I think he wanted Lori to know and put the blame on Billy, knowing she’d tell mare.

Still, something’s going on with Dylan and he does have a gun. I’m guessing they were all part of that prostitution ring and didn’t want that getting out, which is why he told Jess they’re all connected. Someone mentioned that after last week’s episode.

I think John is the father and he also killed her to keep her quiet and made Billy help move her body. Billy has prob been bullied by John his whole life and he’s tired of covering for him. The way John made Billy say to him “I killed her” opened Billy’s eyes on how far John will go to cover his own arse so he brought his gun with him on the fishing trip because he knows that John is going to try and kill him. Unfortunately, I agree with whoever said that Billy will prob be killed in the 1st 5 minutes of the finale. ?? And Mare won’t have cell phone reception to get call from the chief, and she will believe John at first.

Edited to add- I was thinking Billy would be killed by John....but what if Mare sees him with his gun pointed at John , and she shoots him??

Maybe John is the father and killed the girl. Maybe Billy is a black out drunk and has no idea if he killed the girl or not. Maybe John has convinced him he did it. Maybe the bloody clothes could mean he helped dispose of the body. Maybe John was taking him to the cabin to fake a suicide. He did say it was "one last trip." Maybe

The gun in the tackle box is the one that was used to kill Erin.

Forensics said it was a discontinued colt service weapon. Sure looked like a colt 1911 in the tackle box to me.

That’s true. The gun description does match the Ross’ gun verses Dylan’s.

Putting all of the clues together: the gun in the tackle box (which looks like it surprises Billy), the locket with just the name Ross on it, Billy’s frustration with his brother about cleaning up his own messes, the constant affairs, plus the photo the police chief looks at from Jess and tells the deputy to call Mare right away, definitely points to John being the father and the killer. And, like I said above, he’s given Mare his Alibi when he showed her the picture of Frank passed out.

This is what I'm thinking as well.. all the "signs" point to Billy going up to the cabin to kill John, but I think the twist is going to be that John kills Billy (and in the previews for next week John is still alive). Was curious what was in the picture as well.

And I'm also stumped on what Dylan has to do with it.. Maybe John hired Dylan to kill her?

ETA: My guess is that the paternity test will reveal Ross DNA but won't match Billy.. which will lead them to John. Unless it's revealed another way that he's the father.
