If you were a native New Englander that suffered through the curse of the Bambino and decades of heartbreak, you'd appreciate the personal connection......and the Farrelly Brothers to boot.

Absolutely? Experts disagree. I only found 2 polls that have Major League in the top 5. In one it was #4 and the other it was #5.

Probably because Major League was rated R and not all nostalgic and campy. As a kid who loved baseball and grew up in the 90s, I'll just say that Major League was the pinnacle!

I like For the Love of the Game. It's not top five probably, but I think it's good.

GM: Lou how would you like to be the manager of the Cleveland Indians?

I think Major League captured the best of baseball during its last glory years. If it's the best is arguable, but being among the best examples of a baseball movie is not.

I guess it was ML 2 where they poked fun of selling ads on the outfield walls & look at ballparks now.

My 5 personal favorites are:

Bull Durham
Field of Dreams
Fever Pitch
For the Love of the Game
Eight Men Out

I love Major League, it would be in my top 5, but can see how some people wouldn’t rank it top 5 I guess. There’s just so many classics to choose from.

A few not mentioned here that I’ve seen are Moneyball, probably my favorite, Mr Baseball, Hardball, and one of my favorites, The Rookie.

I didn’t see The Rookie until years after it was released, not sure why. But man it’s easily one of the best imo.

I don’t really follow pro baseball so I didn’t know anything about the story. Quaid was fantastic as Morris and might have gotten some awards recognition if that hadn’t been an exceptionally strong year for Acting noms (Brody, DDL, Nicholson, Cage, Caine).

That’s an interesting take. I don’t know that I’ve ever met a Red Sox who thought that the movie was anything but a gross cash grab by all involved (including ownership).

Roger Dorn’s character was absolutely spot on. That guy (in the original) was a definite sign of things to come for the marketing boom in the 90s and beyond.

He didn’t want to dive for the ball because it might mess up his face. That’s the line of thinking that caused social media to be what it is today amongst pro athletes.

Those are some awful lists. Money all is a fine movie, but if you think it’s a top five baseball movie I pity you. Trouble With The Curve is a better serious baseball movie.

My list in no specific order:
- Major League
- Bull Durham
- Sandlot
- Field of Dreams
- The Natural

The aforementioned Trouble with the Curve, Rookie of The Year, The Rookie, Eight Men Out, Mr Baseball, are all movies I’ll watch anytime i see them on.

I always watch ML 1 & 2 back to back and treat it like one long movie. I always thought 2 was funnier.

Just want to point out that for those propping it up, the title of the movie is “For Love of the Game,” not “For THE Love of the Game.”

I really like it, and the fact that LSU alumnus Michael Papajohn has a role (it is a Sam Raimi movie after all) is lagniappe.
