The maesters wanting to snuff out magic always seemed connected to it especially after Sam visits the citadel and the conversation with Marwyn. Alas another plot thread that will never be revisited.

First time the theme song meant something in a long, long time. Great stuff.

I’m just picturing a scene where Dunk is getting his arse kicked and is told he’s not a knight, then there’s a flashback to the dying Arlen knighting him, and then Dunk takes it to 11 in the fight.

Got kind of close!

Loved the episode.

Ugh, do not look forward to seeing what happens to Baelor. He’s my dude.

I’ve watched the last 5 minutes of episode 4 at least 10 times already. Read the books so knew what was going to happen and I was completely blown away. The best part imo was seeing Egg go from hopeless to being mesmerized. Not jumping up and down but a kid who saw something truly heroic. They perfectly captured a moment that would play a huge role in his life. It’s so good.

Agreed.

I’m already sad thinking about what’s gonna happen. A small part of me just wants to see it retconned.

I didn't recognize the guy playing Baelor from The Crown but he did a great job with limited time in bringing Baelor to the screen

That would be one hell of a nuclear chain reaction retcon.

I must say, as someone who hasn’t read the novellas but has a general idea of what happens through lore, I originally found the idea of a Targaryen prince (the heir to the throne and de facto ruler, no less) riding in to fight against his own family and body guards to be implausible and too “romantic” for the GOT world. This show has done an exceptional job of selling it. Not only can I believe Baelor would do it out of a sense of decency, I can honestly see him doing it to show the masses that Targaryens aren’t all inbreeding douchebags.

I’m really looking forward to the conversation between Dunk and Maekar post fight.

I watch the show and get excited when they drop Summerhall Easter eggs. I become more intrigued when I read about the possibilities on here. Then I remember Daenarys died and Jon became a sullen homeless guy so Bran could become king (who has a better story than Bran?).

Not George's ending. I'm more a fan of the world than any of the stories, though, so to me it doesn't matter much.

I thought George had basically confirmed that in broad strokes that was his ending? I.e Dany goes full French Revolution Reign of Terror/Jon kills her, Bran is ultimate king was all official ending from George. It’s why he said he won’t ever finish the books, bc we know the ending.

It was just that we lost a lot of the build up that made those out comes make sense.

He has never said this. He has maintained that he will finish, though it seems unlikely.

And there's never been any conformation of how close the TV ending is to what George has planned.

There’s never been any denial either.
