Yeah frick Joan. She's always been my favorite but it's time to get off the high horse.
I'm glad things have turned around for don professionally and glad he and that skank broke up.

Joan's still bitter because she whored herself out to that fat dude from Jaguar so she could become partner, and then Don stomped the Jaguar account like a cigarette he didn't actually feel like smoking...
Essentially he told Joan, you're worth about as much as the account I just tossed in the trash.

I'm kind of hoping the last scene is Don introducing himself as Dick Whitman like he's finally found himself or something. Don was always someone to get away from who he really is.

When the sh*t was about to hit the fan with the letter firing Don. For some reason I thought someone was going to out him as Dick Whitman.

Don already shite the bed with the Hershey in a whorehouse story. I don't think that the rest of his Dick Whitman story will make much of a difference.
Other than Pete, Bert knew and Betty and Megan know.

Something about who he really is has to come to the forefront next year.

I kept getting the feeling that he passed the torch to Peggy during this episode. Also with Bert's song I wonder if Don leaves advertising all together.

actually Joan alrady slept with the fatty from Jaguar and was gonna take a shower when Don knocked on the door.

When this final season started, I thought one strong possibility for Don's "redemption" would be a plot in which he leaves advertising. Now, however, his identity seems tied in with the creative outlet, combined with professional identity, that advertising provides. Don's artistic temperament definitely doesn't fit in other aspects of the business world. Also, he doesn't completely fit in with the bohemian Greenwich Village crowd. Thus, I don't know if he can find something else. Plus, the five-year contract is liable to be a sticking point in future episodes.
However, I do think the song, at least in part, reflects the pride Don felt in watching Peggy own that Burger Chef presentation. When he arrived back at his apartment, it seemed like he was strangely at peace about the possibility of leaving the company. Roger, in fact, was more determined to prove something.
But I think the beauty of that final scene is how it can be read in a multitude of ways. When I think about Don's background in a whorehouse (and how he frequently feels compelled to pay for the women in his life), Megan's refusal of money had to have an additional emotional impact.
And it cracks me up that Bert Cooper - a devotee of Ayn Rand and the character who most frequently makes calculated decisions free of sentiment or emotion - does that song and dance at the end.

Wow, I didn't realize Ted owned as much as Roger and Bert.

ha, maybe it's Harry Crane that'll be jumping out of the window after seeing those numbers.

Just a thought and it would be cheesy and too simple, but let's say Don Draper signs a contract with M/E for a 5 year term. That wouldnt necessarily bind Dick Whitman to a 5 year deal with M/E.

I see others have already brought up that Don is the only one that told Joan not to do the fat guy.

he was probably the worst character of season one.

He was such a pretentious turd.
"Look at me, I'm dating a negro."
"Look at me, I stole a typewriter from the office so I could write the great American novel."
What a bore.
