It's strictly a deal - for the old folks - and especially for Roger.
As you say...just employees - but with a golden parachute.
It seems like most want to be out after 5 years anyways except for Peggy and her little crew.

I could see Don, giving Harry some of his buyout for being loyal to Don. As Bert said "The best things in life are free"

Exactly. Harry Crane is going to be a salaried employee. Just like he has always been.
So are Don, Pete, Ted, and Roger.
No one else from SCP will get to be a partner unless they are approved by the McCann/Erickson board.
M/E owns 51% of SCP now. SCP is a subsidiary of M/E and they wanted 5 year contracts from "the guys who got Chevy" - Roger, Pete, Don, and Ted. That's why they had to get Ted onboard or the deal wouldn't happen.
Harry dicked around for at least a month (going on the time markers in the episodes) and was trying to get more shares of SCP. Don told him, "No negotiating. Just sign it."
If Harry had listened, Harry would have been a partner and made a million or so dollars.
As it stands now, Harry has no partnership, no money, and no power.
Hell, if M/E has a better media buying dept. and their own computers, Harry could be out of a job.
So could Cutler and Joan if M/E doesn't want them to sign a contract and want them to stay on board.
There are no more partners at SCP - the M/E partners are now their board of directors and Roger is the President of SCP and he reports to the M/E board. That's why Roger did this - to eliminate Cutler's control.
Peering into the future and considering Hobart's long-time desire to bring Don under M/E, it wouldn't surprise me to see Roger ride off into retirement sunset in 5 years, Don to get offered an M/E partnership (and president of SCP?), and the rest of the crew to get dumped.
Especially Joan who brings no more value to the agency as a partner than she did as an employee. One couldn't help but note Roger's disappointment in her alliance with Cutler.

It was more than just disappointment - he called her "Benedict Joan".
Which I kind of loved.

Might be my favorite episode of the series

Anybody make a "I HAVE 10%!" .gif yet?

Joan is being insanely shortsighted. She better have a conservative long term plan for her big payday, because she has absolutely zero worth to the company now that dawn is the office manager.

HA! Harry won't see a cent. He wasn't loyal to Don until he happened to run into Don and got a few drinks in him. He knew that Don was targeted and didn't pick up the phone to warn him.
What board of partners in their right mind would vote to give up portions of their golden parachutes for some random employee?
Don agreed to Harry's partnership because he thought Harry would be on Team Draper. Hamlin wanted him as a partner because he thought Harry would be loyal to his team.
Now that the deal is done, no one gives a shite about Harry.

I could see Harry peacing out during the first couple of episode in '15.

I wouldn't blame him. He could either be a key piece at the next level or M/E could already have a computer guy and replace him with no blowback from Roger at all. Hell, Roger might fire him.

In 1969 there were a thousand guys in NYC that could do Harry's job. He's not a relationship guy like Roger or a creative genius like Don. He places media buys. And to make things worse, he talked them into buying a computer to make his replacement's job even easier.
Harry needs to go and join Kinsey in his commune.

Harry's going to head back to LA imo. He fits that dynamic much better.

As the office manager, she was integral. She got called in to help the move and start scdp, she kept the walls up in the early days of the new company and helped lane keep the books in order.
Now she's a junior account man. She's important to the Avon account and that's about it as far as we know.
She gained influence and voting power with her partnership, but M/e does not give a flying shite about her other than that they'll be cutting her a check. And now she's made enemies with the group that just wrestled control of the business back away from the cutler faction.

Agreed.
$1 million plus is set-you-up-for-life money in 1969. Which is good for her because I'm not so sure she has a bright and shining future in advertising.

I also love the dichotomy (trichotomy?) of Don freaks out (Hersheys)/Cutler wants to fire him, Ted freaks out (Sunkist execs fear for their lives)/Cutler covers for Ted, Ted is ready to throw in the towel and has utterly ignored Cutlers entreaties/DON talks him down off of the ledge.
Though of course, I have no doubt, he didn't do it nor did he give a single damn for Ted's benefit.

Nice wrap up. I was going to ask a few questions and you answered most
So what do we think happens to Joan and Cutler? Normally, Roger would have her back, but not after her cuntiness showed so strongly. Don would have no problem telling her to take a hike after the way she's been acting.
Are they over doing it with Joan though? Seriously, I understand she's mad at him but he had his intentions in the right place for her. She says she's sick of him losing money for her, but who the frick is she? A small 5% partner. And how much has Don made for her?
And can they just fire Cutler after they join? because, frick him
Harry is a dumb arse, but I believe Don will hook him up in some way. And I can't believe it, but I am actually liking Pete a lot this season
