Amazon waited until Christopher Tolkien had passed away before going forward with this project. And for obvious reasons. Also it’s coming out now that Tom Shippey, a Tolkien scholar on the Amazon production wasn’t fired because he talked too much during an interview. He was fired because he kept criticizing show-runners because he said they were poisoning Tolkien’s legacy.
And of course the grandson who is being paid by Amazon is gonna be full of praise.
Sadly money will have that effect when people are stroking your ego.

I have an older copy of Fellowship and in the forward he specifically said he did not want this story to be an allegory to his real life. He hated allegories but fans think his entire series was one. It’s World War I, but I do think inspired would be the better word than based on. And heard that straight from Tom Shippey. Like Mordor is clearly inspired by the battlefields of WWI. And things Tolkien hated were more like the Ring being compared to the Atomic Bomb and shite like that.

Saruman is a great example of this where he talks about ripping up the trees and how the age of man will be of iron and machines. Contrasting that greatly with the green forest and the Ents.

I think Tolkien denied Dwarves were based on Jews but noted the similarities.

The new updated trailer didn't look as good as the first the CGI was terrible. It's amazing how much better dwarves looked in 2001 LOTR vs this
