I’d think we’d only see Morgoth as a shadow with Ungoliant. It’s specifically mentioned in the Silmarillion how they were shrouded by an unpierceable shadow, so nothing more than seeing a limb or so from him when they’re destroying the trees and when Morgoth steals the Silmarils.

Did you watch Matt's livestream from Comic Con? He said they showed that scene.

He said they also showed a clip of a figure that MIGHT have been Sauron in armor standing on some steps, but it didn't look QUITE the same. He was leaning towards it being Morgoth. He remarked that there was a lot of First Age in the material that was shown there.

Did not see that. Granted I’m comfortable with them not directly showing Morgoth. I don’t see why you’d need to given how explicit the Silmarillion is of Morgoth being entrenched in shadow. I see no more reason to see anything but the armor of his hand and arm leaving the rest up to the viewer’s interpretation.

I mean, it speaks to Morgoth’s power that he can approach the trees in shadow. I don’t see that image as conclusive proof they couldn’t do this. Just make it look like the Smoke Monster from LOST but much larger.

I don’t see a video at all there.

EDIT: Found it. Is that all they’re going to show of the Two Trees? I was thinking they’d show Galadriel basking in them, Fëanor asking for a strand of her hair since they had absorbed their light, Fëanor creating the Silmarils inspired by this, and then the trees would be destroyed. Didn’t see any glimpse of Morgoth or Ungoliant or the Unlight they carry as far as I could see.

At least they got the Dwarves beards right, as opposed to The Hobbit where most of them were rocking a 5 o’clock shadow.

Now I think you're trolling

The shadow of Morgoth is evident, you can see it in the still shot I posted. In the video, as the light of the Trees fade, that shadow silhouette darkens.

And, I don't think we will get much in the way of dialogue with the First Age scenes, as they will likely be similar to the flashbacks to the Last Alliance in LOTR. But my best guess, that shot of Elves raising swords is the Oath of Feanor, and will follow this shot of the Trees quite closely.

Is it in the sunset? I guess I see it, but more imagined it something like this with a black fog surrounding them:

Umm, no sun to set yet, right?

Yes, look at that shadow, behind and above the Trees. Look again at the image of Morgoth from that painting you posted, and then at the shadow- the suggestion of the spiked helmet is there. Even looks like spikes on the shoulders too.

It looks like they chose to visually display his godlike power, rather than make him just a guy in a suit.

It’s just the Unlight, you’d expect it to be next level. Against, Tolkien went on for paragraphs to describe it. It simultaneously allows you to make Morgoth look more powerful and to shade what he looks like.

He should be concentrated darkness and shadow. That should be Morgoth’s form, which within it means we should not have to view him directly.

Not sure how much longer we can last with this

I've said it before, Reacher and The Terminal List have gone a good ways towards restoring my hope about this.

About the various black (non-white) actors, let's see how they frame things. The Dwarven queen, it's possible they took her from another House. Treaties and alliances, you know? There's nothing in the books one way or the other about that, and nothing other than Durin's Folk and a couple Petty Dwarves in any of the works. Copout, maybe, but at least they would have tried to explain why someone looks different.

Arondir, that gets sketchy, not just because he's black, but because he's in a relationship with a Mortal woman. That might be a bigger canon issue, honestly. But again, let's see it play out. If he is Sindar bordering on Avari (a possibility, since he has wooden armor instead of the gear of the Noldor), it might work ok. We don't know what the Avari did, and if any of them looked different.

I'm more interested in what they WILL do, with the potential of this tale. Bitch if you want, but some of the newer material looks to be big in scale. If, IF they can tie things in and tell a good story, a lot of the peripheral shite will be ignored. Numenor and Khazad Dum look great.

I’m just praying they got all the bad shite out of the way and it’s smooth sailing from here on out but I won’t hold my breath.

So, House of the Dragon starts 2 weeks before Rings of Power. We know what we're getting with HBO's production values, I think RoP has to match that or it's in big trouble.
Wheel of Time was terrible, imagine if it was airing the same time as Game of Thrones. People wouldn't have come back for the second week.

HBO will have the T&A "adult content" edge, but Rings of Power, IF they did their homework, could have the philosophical/thoughtwork edge. You have Galadriel and the other surviving Noldor moving on from the First Age, the wars against Morgoth, and some descent into pettiness before the rise of Sauron.

Y'know what, I don't really care about negative comments anymore with this. Some of the youtube guys are all-in on a disaster, to the point that they're grasping at things.
If this DOESN'T suck, a lot of them are going to look like idiots.

Amazon doesn’t have the best track record on this kind of thing. And so far their response to any and all criticism doesn’t bode well either.
