What themes are ruined by the black actors.
Name a theme and explain how black people ruin it.

This trailer looks really good. I think it’s definitely something that Christopher Tolkien would be proud of.
What do you think JRR would think of this trailer and changing of his themes and characters?
You do not have to guess, you can just go look up what he said ab

Trailer looks great. Wheel of Time trailers looked great too.

How they changed Galadriel should remove those hopes. She won't be the only change like that.

Who cares what GRR thinks. He’s a dead racist hack.

Frankly, that doesn't bother me as much as it seems to bug others here. The Noldor started wearing arms in Valinor before they left, Feanor had stirred that up.
They didn't go to Middle-Earth on a pilgrimage to Lake Cuivienen, they left against the Valar's express wishes to wage war on Morgoth. After he was defeated, the Valar wanted them to come back to the West, but Galadriel and a number of others REFUSED.
quote:
Pride still moved her when, at the end of the Elder Days after the final overthrow of Morgoth, she refused the pardon of the Valar for all who had fought against him, and remained in Middle Earth. It was not until two long ages more had passed, when at last all that she had desired in her youth came to her hand, the Ring of Power and the domination of Middle Earth of which she had dreamed, and her wisdom was full grown and she rejected it, and passing the last test departed from Middle Earth forever.
Consider, at that point her brothers and cousins are dead, all the great Elven kingdoms of Beleriand are gone, and Beleriand itself has sunk into the sea. Yet depending on which text or Tolkien letter you choose to accept, she's still either refusing, or is outright banned from returning to Valinor.
Either option would indicate she's not yet the calm, wise and mellow queen of Lothlorien we see in LOTR.

As someone who wasn't familiar with the series, I thought they did, so I guess my perspective may be different from someone who knows and loves the books.

I am not sure the issue is her carrying a sword and more about the rewriting of the basic forms these characters take. Galadriel was not a warrior princess. She was a princess of a noble house in what is meant to be pre-Norman conquest Anglo/Saxon mythology. If you believe that she would have gone to battle in armor and sword, you really do not understand the gender roles Tolken followed. Those gender roles were not of Tolken's design, it was the nature of the time period. No one really cares that Eowyn carried a sword. She was a shieldmaden, that is within her character arch. Arwen carried a sword, but you did not see her running off to battle hordes of orcs. Why? Because she is the princess of a noble house in a pre Norman conquest Anglo/Saxon society.
The problems I think most have is what they see as the forcing of modern politics into LOTR. I am sorry, but Galadriel is not a warrior princess like Xena, that is not how her character exhibited her power and leadership. Elrond was not a meek person. He understood the threat of Sauron. That is why he protected the dependents of Isiadore for hundreds of years. Just that one fact is ignored in the trailer because they need Galadriel to look more wise than Elrond. So they rewrite basic "facts" of the mythology to write what they believe should be, not as it was written by Tolkein.

I will say, Wheel of Time trailers didn't impress me a lot. I was more sucked in by knowing (about) the books, and expected, based on some of the other Prime shows I'd seen, a competent effort with an acceptable level of visual "realism" in sets, costumes etc.
Didn't expect Game of Thrones, but thought it would be closer to that, than to Legend of the Seeker or Xena. Turned out, it wasn't.
Game of Thrones has set the bar for production values, especially for a series on a service you have to pay for. I want episodes to look and feel like pieces of a movie, and that's something I will demand from this.

Critical Drinker’s review of the trailer points out a line we’ve all missed and means we’re in deep shite:
A little ominous. Basically saying “Either agree with our rendition of this, or go and die.” And he points out that we’ve heard this almost verbatim from the only franchise that can compare to it in terms of popularity:
We all know it’s fricked, but to point this out makes you a racist according to Sammy who hasn’t read a fricking page of the novels.

It could be Celebrimbor, who is grandson of Feanor.
Galadriel was famously at odds with Feanor and his sons in Tolkien's texts. Feanor started all this shite in the first place, and his Oath led to much, much suffering all throughout the First Age. Ultimately cost most of the Noldor who came across, and most of the Teleri who stayed behind in the first place. Her brothers, uncle and cousins are all gone, and so is Thingol and Doriath, with Melian (who she spent time learning under). Wouldn't be that hard to think she might want to throw Celebrimbor off a cliff, to rid the world of one more Feanorian.
Elrond fits in that conversation, since he and Elros were taken captive and then raised by Maglor, one of the sons of Feanor.

Dude, Celebrimbor is this in the series:
Sorry, you’re giving this way too much of the benefit of the doubt.

Spoken like one who never picked up any of Tolkien's books.
Well spoken.

Drinker, who is an author himself, knows at thing or two about story foundation and character development.
He knows shite when he sees it, and this woke Rangs of Prime is definitely shite.
