Let us know.

I can only imagine how Netflix will present this.

I'm a fan of the book and want this to be good, but have a hard time picturing this adapted well. And it's hard to find good kid actors, I'd probably have a hard time buying into the fierceness of the kids.

Might give it a shot but wouldn't mind seeing what the board thinks first.

It’s a BBC limited series that aired in the UK earlier this year. Netflix just acquired the U.S. distribution rights.

ETA: apparently the biggest complaints are technical. Really strange camerawork and blurry background shots that look AI generated.

It's supposedly (from some articles I've read) really good. As others have said, Netflix didn't actually produce it; the BBC did. So that means it's probably decent. In all honesty, the very old black and white one is pretty good, imo. The "newer" one from 1990 not so much with some horrible changes to the source material.

Anyway, kind of weird to make it a series, as the source material isn't that long and consists of a LOT of description (I taught the novel for like 15 years straight in English classes, so I know it and love it). We will definitely give it a shot around our house. I was bummed to find out my son hadn't read it, because they read it in regular English class 11th grade when he took APLAC.

Lord of the Flies was my favorite book I read as assigned reading in high school, so I’ve been looking forward to watching this.

I watched some of the first episode and I can see why people are complaining about the technical aspects of the show. They are using a mixture of shaky cam, extreme closeups, and fisheye lenses, which is certainly a choice. The score is odd as well and it doesn’t really fit with some of the scenes.

It was my favorite assigned book also. I remember the old 60's film being pretty good. I haven't seen it in a while however.

Trailer actually looked ok. Was expecting Piggy and Ralph to be 2 Indian boys and Jack and his crew to be all white guys to appease 'modern audiences.'

If they stick with the book, it may not be bad.

Even after half arse reading the book and watching the movie 30 years ago in school I still remember Piggy.

Yeah, but BBC series are usually only like 4-6 episodes.

Ngl I binged it tonight. Thought it was pretty good. It’s also been years since I read the book so idk how much it sticks to that. My only real complaint is what previous posters said. Theres just some strange camera work which I noticed pretty much 3 minutes in.

We finished the 3rd episode last night, and I'm very impressed with the adaptation so far. They did a really nice job of keeping with all the themes found in the source material. The additions they've made to the story (to provide more material) compliment the theme of the book and mainly serve to deepen some of the relationships between the characters and make the events more impactful.

The only big issue I have right now (spoilers below):

When Simon leaves the pig roast and climbs the mountain and confronts the Beast, that was well done. However, a critical element is that Simon ALSO finds the dead pilot who they've mistaken for the beast and is going back down to the beach to let everyone know that there isn't a beast, but it's just a dead pilot who parachuted down. He's then killed without being able to impart that knowledge to the others. This is a pretty important symbolic piece in the allegorical nature of the novel because Simon is a prophetic figure (seizures) who has climbed the mountain, discovered the truth, and then is killed holding the truth that could have "saved" them all from their self-destruction. Anyway, I get that it's kind of a confusing part of the book, but it's a pretty big omission in my opinion.

Thought it was great, better than the book, the boys characters were more complex.

I didn't like the scenes when they do close ups of the little kids faces and they throw in kids you never seen before like the Asian kid.

I didn't like how Simon acted either. Jack and Ralph were close to the books and Piggy was good too.

On EP2 and enjoyed the first but the camera angles and cinematography is a distraction. The clear to blurry shots are so weird. And then you have numerous times when it looks like you’re watching a Planet Earth documentary with long super clear shots of exotic insects.

The eye liner and pink lipstick on all the kids is driving me nuts too.

Story wise pretty solid first episode though.

The kid playing Jack is cast as Malfoy in the upcoming HP series, I believe.
