The Internet Movie Database has changed its rating system for the newly-released live-action “Little Mermaid” amid “unusual voting activity.”

Our rating mechanism has detected unusual voting activity on this title. To preserve the reliability of our rating system, an alternate weighting calculation has been applied,” a note on the US, Canadian, U.K., Brazilian, and Mexican “Little Mermaid” pages reads.

IMDb continues on its FAQ page: “Although we accept and consider all votes received by users, not all votes have the same impact (or ‘weight’) on the final rating.”

It’s so sad to see them scrambling to tinker with all of these little online metrics when at the end of the day, they can’t change the fact that the movie just isn’t good and people know it. It will not be remembered.

I know it's hard to believe this, but not every website is interested in being used as a pawn in your bullshite culture wars.

Keep typing it over & over until even you believe it.

It’s not MY war. I didn’t start this, Hollywood did.

You’re seeing the pretzel twisting by sites like RT & IMDB, yet you blame everyone except those who are the problem.

Yikes!

It is amazing how obsessed grown men are with freaking movie reviews. Especially for a kids movie

If you wanna see it, see it. If not, don’t. Why spend time comparing reviews and making points on a message boards?

seems pretty intellectually dishonest that they assume all high ratings are because the movie is good and all the low ratings are because people are racist.

sort of a heads I win, tails you lose situation going here.

Glad you’re down with controlling dissenting opinions, even with the unimportant stuff like kids movies.

Ironic, given the topic.

I for one also support websites changing user inputs until the correct responses are found.

It's not about the truth, it's about the correct answer.

Completely unrelated to Little Mermaid, I actually don't mind this. I'm sure a 25 year old male enjoys Fight Club more than a 70 year old female does, for example.

so? they're introducing a level of complete subjectivity when it comes to "vote weight" that renders any ratings to be absolutely meaningless. movie ratings are already subjective as it is, but at least every vote counts the same, so you get some degree of reality. when subjective votes are also weighted subjectively, you get nothing but mush.

It's not meaningless when the result is the correct rating.

For what it’s worth, they are showing the non-weighted score as well. It’s 4.7

Reviews don't matter. US is still putting in the BO #s. Globally, its being rejected.

Don’t bother their minds are so warped by culture war bullshite they think any instance of this is obviously some conspiracy and any pushback against their own conspiracy is of course part of the agenda. It’s like when the Cleopatra show got review bombed and many here tried to deny it despite the fact that the show on its first day of release had more reviews than the last season Stranger Things. It’s entirely possible for a show or movie to be dogshit while also not wanting it to be review bombed
