They were worried about him for days, then they spend 1 minute with him before leaving the room. If you watch closely, the dad has one little awkward reach out to Kevin. It was sort of a "I don't know how to exit the scene, so I'm going to do this weird nudge to show I care about the kid".

I mean, what else could they do at that point?

With my wife's family, when people get back from a vacation, they always plan something where everyone gets together to listen to the vacationing people go into extreme detail about everything. I would think the McAlisters would be interested to hear what the hell he did for multiple days while he was home by himself.

He told them he just hung around.
Plus they had just been on two 8+ hour flights in just a few days. They were probably all wiped out.

Idk if one of my kids was missing for days with no contact I’d like to think my reaction would be different than saying hello to an old drinking buddy I haven’t seen in a while

Well I guess its better than the 2nd movie where he is more concerned about the room service bill lol

How did the family get all of those presents back to Chicago?

I wish that Keebler never stopped making those.

Old Man Marley was a dick for straight up skipping Kevin in line while he was trying to buy a toothbrush. Skipping him and slamming his blood soaked hand down like some deranged thug.

Right... to act like Kevin is weird to be scared is crazy. Dude, you did nothing up to that point to ease his fear. You were kind of creepy
Posted on 12/22/25 at 8:29 am to Sauce Castieaux
Then he straight up mean mugged him the entire time Kevin was backing away.

The bloody hand slam was extremely out of pocket. I just keyed in on it yesterday.

It’s weird.
They show up and their reaction is simply Hey Kevin we’re glad you’re safe….frick we’re outta milk.
Like mama sneaks in and just stares at him. WTF? A normal mama would have run over and hugged him so tight.

. And since they obviously slept in and were in a rush, it's doubtful they would have remembered to toss it before they left.
Did you see that kitchen when Kevin woke up? It was spotless. Clearly, mom runs a tight ship in that house. Except when it comes to keeping track of her children's whereabouts.

Yeah, Kevin was sent to bed at dinner time. They may have mentioned the time, but let's assume 7. That's still a lot of time to get the kitchen cleaned before going to bed.

It’s crazy how Old Man Marley repeatedly encounters Kevin and just stares at him as though he wants to kill him, once while holding a giant shovel, and another time while slamming a bloody and bandaged hand on a counter, all to then have the gall to later go up to him and say, “You can say ‘Hello’ when you see me.”

I've always thought this too, but it also could be a situation similar to the radiator. Earlier in the movie the radiator is shown opening up and making noises to scare Kevin. We know the radiator didn't actually open and say "HELLO KEVIN!" because that was just Kevin's imagination. Maybe Kevin is just perceiving Old Man Marley as looking at him that way because he is already afraid of him.
