Awards shows are crap. If Leo's in it, I'm seeing it.

Ive always liked the guy. He's one of the best out there. Of all his stuff I think I like his role in Blood Diamond the most. Perfect for that part.

Agreed. He was fantastic in that movie. His acting was phenomenal along with, in my eyes, nailing one of the most difficult accents for an American to mimmick.

not to mention being snubbed in 1993 for Whats Eating Gilbert Grape, losing out to Tommy Lee Jones in The Fugitive.. I guess he shouldn't have gone full retard

I never liked Leo, but at one point, I realized the last three movies I had bought were movies of his (Aviator, CMIYC, and GoNY), and I enjoyed all three of those.

The thing with Leo is though, like someone said, he doesn't really carry a lot of films that he is in. And while I do think that it's complete bullshite that Depp is nominated TWICE in the same fricking category this year, I can't say that Leo should get a nod.

I think he's a very solid actor, and like Baloo said, I guess he always has his large piles of money (not to mention supermodel girlfriends) to keep him company, as well as his pick in pretty much any movie he wants. Seems easily worth not winning an Oscar IMO. Also, like someone else said, he doesn't really need the propulsion that an Oscar would give him anyway, since he's already pretty much at the top of Hollywood.

It would still be a nice acknowledgment to win one. I dont think the movies from this year are that big of a snub, but I do think he should have won for Blood Diamond and as i said before Gilbert Grape...and possibly The Basketball Diaries. Bottom line, the dude can just flat out act and oscar wont change it, but damn he should have won one by now.

Let's give it up for Leo in "Total Eclipse" - he err...stretched himself in that role.

Are we having to take it back to when he was 21 to get a bad role out of him?
I've actually never seen that movie.

He doesn't care about awards, he's already won at life.

He really only deserved it for The Aviator and The Departed. maybe. And that's being generous. He's extremely good, and hits the great note every once in awhile, but he hasn't deserved it in all of those years.

Maybe The Departed and that's it. I'm not saying he's not solid or good at his craft but what was the last work where he went out of his comfort zone. Sure he can play a good role where he suffers in a drama with misogynist tones or suffers in a thriller but what else in the last 10 or so years? Catch me if you can? Was that considered a comedy?

He has the good fortune to choose his roles and projects and that's allowed him to excel in the ones he's chosen. But they've been fairly similar. To me he's never been believable in some roles b/c of his babyface like aviator. He reminds a little bit of Pitt. I see Leo in a lot of the movies more than the character.

Not really hating on him b/c his movies are good and he's better than many in Hollywood but he's not extraordinary IMO.

I have to agree. The quality of the movie kind of makes him. I do like him as an actor though.

I'm going to catch all kinds of hell for this but here goes...

Johnny Depp is the most over rated actor on the planet.

I like Johnny Depp and think he's a good actor. But just looking at his films he hasnt been in anything that great in the past 10 years. I mean yeah, some of the movies have been fun and they have made a lot of money. But none of the performances were spectacular.

Not one of Depp's rolls were even close to Danny Archer. The other thread about perfectly casted films should certainly include Blood Diamonds. I can't think of a major or minor roll that wasn't nailed.

Hell no. The most disrespected actor in Hollywood is Gary Oldman. How in the world does that man not have a single Oscar nomination?
