She's by no means unattractive, but she's a lot less attractive in other pics of her.

That being said, an attractive woman won't make me watch something with a narrative I don't find engaging. For me, the verdict is still out here. I'll give it a shot.

H. P. Lovecraft is spinning in his grave.

Well, he did end up marrying a jewish chick, so he seemed to have gotten over it.

But yeah, this series is some kind of retribution for Lovecraft's xenophobic (he decried "Swedes" and Irish etc. as well) screeds.

But again, it doesn't "ruin" anything. It's just a shitty adaptation. It looks destined to fail anyway, like the one-season only "hit" show The Wokemen. Just take satisfaction in that.

This is based on a novel called Lovecraft Country, not on any of Lovecraft's work. It's a good book. You guys are dumb.

I mean it's kind of dumb to attach your career to your brother and shout righteousness when most people readily admit you're all a bunch of kunts

It's based on a book from 2016. I'll give it a look, I also think in that interview she says she gets naked in the show.

Why are so many people surprised at what this is about? It's based off of a best selling novel.

Because of the name of the show? Usually, "Lovecraft" references are used to reference, HP Lovecraft. I know, that's a crazy thought, but bear with me. So a show called "lovecraft country" most would think it would have to deal with what most consider the Father of Horror. Then you see who the creator is, and you say, "hmmm, the racist director who goes out of his way not to hire white actors, ok. Well, regardless, i hope it still has Lovecraft themes, considering his other horror movies appear to have been good". Then you hear, "it's about wokeness moreso, than it is about Lovecraft". Well that's beyond disappointing. HOwever, considering the network and director, probably shouldn't be so surprising. And then, as you mentioned, "Well its from a book, how didn't you know that". Well, there are a lot of books out there, if you aren't aware, and we haven't read all of them. So it's not unfathomable that many, if any here have read that particular book.

But your wokeness is noted. So congrats!

Talking about her brother is not attaching her career to his. Trump did not attach his career to the pedophile he wishes well. You are not attaching your career to Jurnee Smollett by talking about her here. That's not how it works.

She was famous before her brother. She is working after her brother.

And I was talking about the people who decided what this show was about based on the name alone, clearly not even reading the article that contains the Smollett interview.

You don't find that strange, in the least?

And i'm glad you can read. I really am. Did you read the book? Or did you just google about the book, so you can appear to smarter than everyone else? Like i said earlier, there are a lot of books out there. Not all of us have read all of them, like you have.

HP LOVECRAFT!!! You find it odd that people associate a book/series called "Lovecraft Country", the often used setting by what is considered the King of Horror, HP Lovecraft, has NOTHING TO DO WITH HP LOVECRAFT? You also find it odd that not everyone is aware that some obscure NY author wrote a 2016 novel using that title, with zero references to HP Lovecraft?

So if someone wrote a book, "Batman: Gotham Knight" and it was greenlit for production as a series, but people were then confused as to why a show with that name, was actually about the struggles of transgenderism in small town Ohio, and not about the comic book character...that you would similarly be posting, "you guys are so stupid, it's a book written by an author and you should know that it has nothing to do with batman or bruce wayne".

You are not as smart as you think you are. Lower your self esteem, Francis.

well...the book does reference Lovecraft

but it tries to mix it all together with 1960s America

so no one should be surprised what this show was about since it literally tells you its based off the book with the same name

Many of the tropes of Lovecraftian Horror - apocalyptic cults and mystical beings from other dimensions - are central to the narrative of Lovecraft Country. It just replaces the dread of the unknown/cosmic horror with the dread of the certain/racial horror.

But the white supremacy was already lost at Innsmouth.

All I wanted was fish rape and cults yo. Maybe some sort of Titus Crow type adventure but written well.

It has no proper spelling just approximates in our tongue.

quote:

Lovecraft transcribed the pronunciation of Cthulhu as Khlûl'-hloo and said that "the first syllable pronounced gutturally and very thickly. The u is about like that in full; and the first syllable is not unlike klul in sound, hence the h represents the guttural thickness."[4] (See the discussion linked below.) S. T. Joshi points out, however, that Lovecraft gave several differing pronunciations on different occasions.[5] According to Lovecraft, this is merely the closest that the human vocal apparatus can come to reproducing the syllables of an alien language.[6] Cthulhu has also been spelled in many other ways, including Tulu, Katulu and Kutulu.[7] The name is often preceded by the epithet Great, Dead, or Dread.

Long after Lovecraft's death, the spelling pronunciation /k?'?u?lu?/[8] became common. Others use the pronunciation Katulu/Kutulu spelling pronunciation /k?'tu?lu?/[9]

Like i said many times, whole lotta books out there. This one is obscure, so most people may take it for cover value, rather than content, especially if a series is being written for it.

Being shocked that people are disappointed that this isn't about H.P. Lovecraft or his works, is the issue. Only those that read the actual book, knows what the book is about. You would think, do to both the popularity of HP Lovecraft and the niche cultist following that his stories have, that a show about that would be a fantastic idea. To find out it is merely another woke project, is disappointing at the least. Clearly you can see the obvious, no?
