Many of the tropes of Lovecraftian Horror - apocalyptic cults and mystical beings from other dimensions - are central to the narrative of Lovecraft Country. It just replaces the dread of the unknown/cosmic horror with the dread of the certain/racial horror.
So it's replacing the mystical beings/apocalyptic cults with 2020 wokeness set in the 1960s? Very lovecraftian.

I just tvtroped the book since wiki doesn't have much on it.
I'll give what is essentially Anastasia in America a chance with Peele at the helm. Even if I'm disappointed no one is getting INKED.

For arguments sake, a series/book called "Lovecraft Country" should be about (in my opinion) his many stories, all tied together, culminating in the reveal of an ancient, world ending being called Cthulu. That would be pretty awesome, and the visual effects today, would be fantastic.
That's what i was hoping for/expecting. Something in that vain. I didn't know it was based on a book. I assumed it was, because Hollywood doesn't have original ideas anymore. But even given it was based on a book, i assumed it would be as described above.
But to find out it's merely another SJW/HBO collaboration is disappointing. Certainly, any rational being can see that. Save us the "well duh, it was based on a book, i can't believe you didn't read that book."

Now is about time Cthulu should show up and take over again to stop this thing from happening.
Have you seen the "Cthulhu 2020" political campaign style shirts and what not?

This one is obscure, so most people may take it for cover value, rather than content, especially if a series is being written for it.
well the cover has spooky looking klansmen on it

Being shocked that people are disappointed that this isn't about H.P. Lovecraft or his works, is the issue.
it will try to work Lovecraftian themes into the show

To find out it is merely another woke project, is disappointing at the least. Clearly you can see the obvious, no?
I'll give it a shot because of the horror elements.
How many times has some director or actor/actress said something similar about a show or movie and then the show/movie not be "woke" at all? Remember Knives Out was supposed to be a take down of "Trumps America" or some bullshite and then it was hardly anything of the sort?
Unless you just think any show set in 1960s America is "woke", I'll give it the wait and see approach.

...no
it isn't replacing them
it just mixes them all together

To be fair it's been at least 20 years and probably more of those. I mean you only have to update the year.

Well watchmen was a flop. And HBO is churning out series after series of "woke" garbage, so forgive me if my expectations are low.

It got a lot of love on here, but Watchmen was straight trash. If they're making a Lovecraftian themed show that's similar, it will be another trash show. Cthulhu is racist, yo.

Based on its massive popularity and leading the Emmys in total nominations? If you didn't like it, that's fine. But "flop" implies that it failed in financial and/or critical terms, which it objectively did not.

I'd love to see a list of those. Is Euphoria woke? His Dark Materials? Perry Mason? Succession? Westworld? Big little lies? Chernobyl? The Righteous Gemstones? Barry? Avenue 5? High Maintenance? Run? Ballers?
I guess I May Destroy You fits that (seemingly very short) list? It involves assault and black people. Haven't seen it yet, and I'm betting you (or anyone here) haven't either.

what? it wasn't a massive hit, but it certainly wasn't a flop

I'll be honest, I wouldn't expect you to, as you seem to be the overly sensitive type to "woke"
if this show is on the same level of "wokeness" as Watchmen, then I'll be able to enjoy it

Chernobyll was the only quality show of substance in that group you just listed there. I watched Avenue 5 for a bit, but lost interest. Westworld got very boring.

Have no idea what that is.

The series is set in London and stars Coel as Arabella, a young woman who seeks to rebuild her life after being raped.
Not sure how you get it's about black people, but the topic matter does not interest me, so no, i will not be watching.
Just like i don't watch Euphoria, Girls, High Maintenance, or any other show that presents "Coastal Grunge" Life as what "real America" is about.

Chernobyl was a limited run series. I believe Watchmen ended on a cliffhanger, did it not? According to the articles i've read.
ETA: I've read the creator decided he didn't want to go further with it. So i may have been mistaken about it being cancelled due to commercial success. I didn't watch it because it didn't interest me, the movie fell flat (IMO), and i didn't need another show trying to imply everyone is racist.

Has no basis on what's considered a limited series.

See above. Edited my post after doing more reading on it.
