As much as i hate the assholes that ruined the things I loved as a kid, purely for the sake “re-imagining “ it for some idiotic cause, I hate the “OK, Boomer” horseshite even more. And Im not alone. Theres a reason that Gold, Silver and Bronze age reprints are outselling all of DC’s crap they've been pushing for 15 years. The people that grew up with and love these characters aren’t interested in this bullshite.

Not sure I like the "gritty True Detective" angle either. Seems more fitting for a Martini Manhunter show or a show about The Question.
Green lanterns sre space troops. Doing a murder mystery in rural Earth? Seems like a misplaced buddy cop story.
A better take would be an alien-threat-of-the week approach. Make ‘em scary.

Green Lanterns are definitely better suited for intergalactic threats.
Is this really a show on earth solely? If so, that makes me like the murder mystery angle even less.

Aaron Pierre was great in Rebel Ridge. Would love to see him get the role.

I'm gonna have to change the sign over the door in this meme.

Back to the actual news in this thread...

I mean it’s only happened with Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain Marvel, Dr. Who, Hawkeye, Mando, Ghost Busters (twice) and dozens more. The only people who think it’s a hot take are people who like it when this happens.

He likes to pretend Hollywood doesn’t do this in every property

I'll always have Gary Hobson's back.

This board is a mess
Literally for years on this board people were told it's not happening. Now when it's no longer possible to claim it isn't we're told to not mention it.lol Don't blame us for pointing it out, blame Hollywood for doing it.

Damn son you ain't even happy about a white male getting a leading role.

Didn’t say I wasn’t happy or not just made a prediction based on recent history. Funny it’s always the same types trying to twist other posters words so they can attack them based on the straw men you create.

Old white man in lead role existing IP "passing mantle" to strong diverse replacement is the trend though.

Is it possible to do a Green Lantern on-screen without it being corny as frick? I don't see how.
Posted on 9/28/24 at 9:36 am to Sam Quint
Is Jon Stewart being in this because DEI? Or has he been around long enough where people will be fine with it? Or do we need to get a run time of how much screen time each gets before we decide the DEI of this?
If they base this off Hard Traveling Heroes with Jon replacing Ollie will we be required to review bomb it because it is too woke?

Depends how the script and show are IMO. John Stewart is definitely one of those characters that has been around for a long time and a lot of people will remember him as a black Green Lantern. It's really more of a context thing where when EVERY show does this, it makes it harder to accept for some people even when it's a minority role that has always been a minority and is well known.
I don't know. Black Green Lantern John Stewart is not a big deal to me when taken out of context of the rest of the "white IP hands off mantle to diverse replacement." But I also understand why some people are quick to be like, oh here we fricking go again.
I know you were being snarky and probably looking for a snarky response, but I'm not in the mood. So you get my non-snark response.

My post was more targeted at the fact that like you said, some people complain even when it was always a minority because they always assume every minority only gets the role because DEI.
I truly believe there are people on this board who do not believe a non-white person can reasonably be cast in anything and the only time they actually get a role it's only because DEI. Similarly how any non-white person working an above entry level job only is doing so because of affirmative action because they can't possibly be qualified on their own.
