Dammit I had been ignoring them forever but the positive reaction has convinced me I have to watch them all.

Seeing apes on horseback hunting humans hit me in the feels. Then "Nova" in the cornfield.

So damn in.

Hopefully it's a good movie.

Didn't see any of the newest reboots.

I'm a "man in a rubber suit" kind of guy, the CGI rarely does it for me.

They really are good films.

I prefer practical effects when possible, but the CGI in these films is really well done.

While the movies are good, I wish they didn't mess up the origin story.
Based on my understanding of the original movie (Heston), the astronauts when thru some sort of time warp. When they returned to earth, millions of years had passed...WW3 had wiped out humanity and apes were re-evolving. This explains why there were few remnants of civilization left and the little they had were relics and also why the apes were so shocked when the human could speak.
The new movies completely rewrote the origin, which is fine I guess, but I like the original story better than the disease/virus thing.

I believe the ship's chronometer only reflected a few thousand years. Thats not much time for evolution to take place. I guess I'm partial to reboot story as it is the entire plot of the first film which is still my favorite of the current trilogy.

The astronauts were traveling at or near light speed, causing the time dialation. If you remember in the original, as the ship was sinking they looked at the chronometer and a little over 2000 years had passed.

The original had a time loop theme to it, with Caesar being born in the third film with parents from the future (don’t see how this would be plausible unless they went back in time, thus supporting the time warp theory). It doesn’t explain the other apes evolving so fast.

well dang. I haven't seen the film since I was a kid and didn't remember the chronograph. My whole life is a lie.

I don't think these movies get the credit they deserve. Probably top 5 of trilogies IMO. Definitely the best since the Bourne movies

I watched them all a couple of months back. I had only seen the first one (the James Franco one) previously. So I rewatched that one and then caught 2 and 3. They are honestly pretty good. They aren't really my kind of thing, but they were all pretty interesting and engaging, and this Kingdom one looks pretty good as well.

And I agree that the CGI is really well done. I like practical effects too, but these are a lot more convincing than "guy/girl in monkey suit."

They used time dilation well enough in the first one, but by the third one they were traveling into the past, using relative state formation as "Hasslein's Time Theory", which was their Swiss army knife explanation for anything time travel related.
