Like I said in the other thread, it was OK while actually watching, except for the ending.
But, after reflecting on it, absolutely nothing makes sense.
Overall, there are certainly lots of worse movies and lots of better ones.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Logic and empathy have to work together for us to last as a species. The aliens chose to stay in the shadows until revelation was the last move to keep us out of WW3.
Was it groundbreaking? No. But an interesting new type of alien movie.

Also people don’t like those endings anymore, if they ever did.
The sorta cliffhanger? It would have been fine if the movie had earned it, but the movie didn't.

I love Speilberg. I think that few other directors capture a sense of wonder better than he. I am a huge follower of the UFO topic and have been since I was a little kid.
This film was mediocre. I was expecting a lot more from him on this topic. I was expecting to feel like I felt when the pilots from WWII came out of the spaceship in Close Encounters or when the warehouse got revealed in Raiders of the Lost Ark but that resonance never solidified. I can't say why the finale with the ufo mythos footage didn't land with me but it was just missing something. I'm sure it was a solid movie for others and maybe I was just expecting too much Maybe I'll feel differently upon rewatch.

Saw it today with my 13 yr old daughter. At the end she just said “what was that?”

It was an average film at best especially since there was nothing new to the subject in any way.

It's a film that was the definition of safe.
It said nothing of note. Took no chances. Separated itself in any way imaginable. It was Boomer Slop.

AI, Catch Me if You Can, and Minority Report were pretty good. War of the Worlds was decent as well.
Munich and ready player one as well.
I haven't seen some of those other movies like west side story or warhorse, but he's still made several good ones post saving private Ryan.

ready player one was not good brotha. Munich was good though, you're right. he does the j-ganda movies well.

I liked it for a one time watch. About 30 minutes too long for me. I chuckled at the Nixon clip.

I watched this last night for a 9 pm show and it was an absolute chore to get through with no satisfying payoff. All I could think was how terrible it would be on rewatch and that I’ll never watch it again.

4/10 at best. Praying for it to end.
