The most Spielberg of Spielberg movies. Steve still doesnt know how guns or cars work...or trains.

Very slow burn.

Bit of a bait and switch regarding the premise the trailer shows and the film.

Feel bad for Daniel. Margaret is basically Jesus and he can do math good.

Penultimate scene is the best part. The rest is just kind of characters making weird choices and contrived devices to move the characters around Kansas.

All actors put in good to great performances.

7/10 will probably never watch again.

If you really like Spielberg, you'll enjoy it.

But a 3 hour run time is way too long.

It's kind of sad how after Saving Private Ryan, his talent just kind of diminished. AI, Catch Me if You Can, and Minority Report were pretty good. War of the Worlds was decent as well. But nothing after SPR ever lived up to what he did in the 30 years prior. E.T., Jaws, Close Encounters, The Indiana Jones Trilogy, Jurassic Park, Schindler's List....I mean he's a Hall of Famer for sure, but there was a pretty steep drop off after 1997.

I saw it today. I had been reading some of the hate on it, so I went in with lowered expectations. In the end, it wasn't that bad of a movie. It is a slow burn but once the pieces fall together towards the end I liked it. It is a long movie for sitting in the theater, though; probably would have enjoyed it more watching it at home but is my wedding anniversary and the wifey (no pics) wanted to see it, so there you have it. I'll probably watch it once more in a couple of years on a rainy day.

Did the audience laugh at the train scene? Mine did.

Disagree completely

It was a deep disappointment compared to the prolonged setup. No questions are answered in a satisfactory fashion. Just ends up like a flattened souffle that wasn't prepared properly.

The ending for Colin Firth's character is especially bad. There is neither a rational accounting for his sins neither a rebuttal of the dangers of disclosure. A great villain embodies purpose and clean motivation. From his point of view he must be understood to be consistent, strong, and moral. He was written as none of those things.

I like it less today than I did after seeing it yesterday. Was it okay kinda? Yes, in an above average way. But this is a bad movie compared to the quality Spielberg produced in the late 20th century.

Just watched Jurassic Park and it is still so good. They really don't make movies like that anymore.

Take Steven Spielberg's name off Disclosure Day and slap M Night Shyamalan's name on it and its a 12% Rotten on Rotten Tomatoes. Guaranteed.

Only Night's disasters have been poorly reviewed. I would say he does quite well with critics, given that he's only worked in low-mid budget genre films, and has been working without the expectation of significant critical acclaim or awards since Signs. The more likely scenario is that slapping his name on Disclosure Day results in a higher RT score. It's no longer a pretty good Spielberg film; it becomes the best Shyamalan film since his debut, in which he makes a giant leap forward in visual style. Lots of "M. Night finally grows up" and "the Spielberg acolyte becomes the master" type stuff.

It was hot dookie. The first movie I've wanted to walk of in a long time.

He made a 1980's movie with a modern veneer and it didn't work in the slightest.

Spoiler: Delete if not allowed.

Role out the live alien you have in a box truck opening scene and the rest of the movie is unnecessary. The aftermath of that would have been a better story.

The entire movie on screens in the background it’s showing how the world is on the brink of WW3 even before this revelation… which.. I mean.. isn’t really a revelation.. we all know there are some sort of alien life forms out there and Area 51 and all that

They make it seem like this would destabilize the world and end it all like we couldn’t handle it

But the world was gonna be at war anyway without disclosure day

This just did not do it for me

A lot of build up with little if any resolution.

Spielberg’s name on it definitely helps its popularity. If someone else made it, it wouldn’t be in the news.

The actors were good. The writing didn't hold up.

One and done for me. Not bad, just not that good.

Saw an ad that quoted somebody calling it the “best Spielberg film in 20 years”.

I wouldn’t use that.
Anyway, it was forgettable.

Just read the spoilers. I would’ve been pissed sitting around for 3 hours watching that. Seems like it would’ve been perfect for direct to streaming on prime or Netflix.

It’s a chase movie with alien sprinkles. Also people don’t like those endings anymore, if they ever did. That’s the type of thing easily spread through word of mouth. Viewers will drop like a rock.
