Agreed. I said in another similar thread quite a while back that this trilogy is far and away the best comic book trilogy.

Definitely the weakest of the 3. It was a Gotham movie not a Batman movie. That is why it always rubbed me the wrong way.

i even like the marvel movies more than TDKR. the plot holes, contrivances, expository dialogue, et al make TDKR an irredeemable piece of rubbish for me. The Nolans are shaky writers to begin with, but this is on a whole new level of filth.

It felt like a cash in. I don’t think Nolan really wanted to continue with it after Ledger died.

I do still love the trilogy and I appreciate Nolan weaving different comic arcs together for TDKR. I think it would have been a lot better without the ham-fisted inclusion of Talia

TDKR is my favorite one sometimes.

But really though i think TDK is the best.

Then I watch Batman Begins (less frequently) and i'm like damn this ones just as good as the other two.

THey're all equally great. Nitpicking critics can take their plot holes and shove em up their arse.

I still think The Dark Knight Rises is the second best of the trilogy behind only The Dark Knight. It follows what is inarguably the greatest comic book film of all-time. That's a tough fact to follow. As a result it was always going to come under more scrutiny than the previous two films. Most of the gripes people had with it exist in the other two films as well. They just stick out more in The Dark Knight Rises because people were looking for them this time around.

The Dark Knight Rises is better than and all of the DCEU films, single or combined.

that's not really a testament to the quality of Rises though.

I think that DKR is a much different movie with a better response if not for Bane's stupid fricking voice in it. That one small detail is a splinter in your finger for the whole movie.

while I agree that it does have a social context, while completely insane compared to the context in TDK, i think it’s actually more of a Bruce Wayne movie than anything else. I definitely think if someone watches it from the perspective of it being about BW at its heart, it is much better.

I do wish ledger could have finished off Nolan’s trilogy, cause I have no doubt his original plan for TDKR would have been incredible.

It was unintentionally hilarious (case in point the earthquake football game where they’re running around continuing to play while the earth swallows them), and that is usually not a good thing

It would have been a better movie had Bruce died in the end with the bomb.

My only problem with TDKR is this: After the movie is over, Bruce Wayne is only Batman for like 10 months cumulatively between Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises. Seems kind of a small a amount of time.

Did Nolan ever discuss what his vision was for the 3rd film before Ledger died?

No, but Jonathan Nolan briefly did. Bane was still going to be the main bad guy but he shows up during Joker's trial. There wouldn't have been the 8 year gap in the story and Catwoman wasn't going to be in it.

I sincerely doubt they thought this far ahead. They hadn’t even finished TDK when Ledger died. No way they were already thinking about Bane.

There were rumors about Philip Seymour Hoffman playing the Penguin in the Nolan universe (he put those to rest). This would have been epic. And I always thought Tim Roth would make an incredible Mad Hatter in Nolan's films.
