Yes, the social justice message is there. There’s also a very strong anti-music industry message. There’s a very strong message about Black people joining the corporate cult and harming Black people the same way Whites did during more racist eras. It presents Black on Black crime as destructive to the fabric of Black culture and existence. There’s a very strong message about the appropriation of Irish folk and Black music as a means to control the underclasses. The Irish and Asians are presented as just as downtrodden and hunted as Black people. That’s why people like this movie. It has a lot to say and doesn’t let Black people off the hook; it shows how “the system” has turned them against each other. And it has vampires.
Bruh, Pretentious much????

The end credits.
And there are two. One is Buddy Guy playing guitar (which is awesome in itself). And the second one is the one I’m talking about. I’ll say it below in case anybody hadn’t seen it.
The one where Stack and Mary see Sammie in the 80s. It’s cool as hell.

I saw Buddy Guy and B.B. King together back when Susan Tedeschi opened the show. A relative newcomer named Derek Trucks was on guitar for her.

There’s another at the very end. That’s what was throwing meX, I was calling it the first even though they do show him playing guitar as an old man.

to clarify, i know that the movie was set in the 30s deep south and that nothing in the movie was really out of place or context for the time and locale. and like i said, this is definitely an issue with me and my own mental state right now, but even the fact that they set a movie during that time period irritates me. even if the story is correct for that era, it still feels like every chance they get they push the narrative "hey remember how bad things were for the blacks in the deep south?" - like they set the movie in that era deliberately just to have that subtext. that's what annoys me.
downvote away. i'm not saying it's healthy or right, i'm just saying that's where i'm at with entertainment these days.

I couldn't finish it. I'm sure it's my own headspace or whatever, but my tolerance for any kind of racial / social justice messaging or the plight of the oppressed minority is almost zero. The first sign of any of it and I just turn off whatever I'm watching. It just takes me right out of the show.
Its definitely there, but to me it was more about using the music as a way to speak out against oppression and kind of get away from it, and how throughout history people in power have tried to stop the music or just steal it for themselves in a way (and the Irish link is a great example of that).
I think the mindset that any race or nationality exclusively "owns" something like a genre of music, hair style, etc is pretty obviously silly, but I think that point was one of a few points the movie was making and not necessarily the main one.

I get that. But I’m just telling you the movie doesn’t focus on woke/race shite very much at all. It’s just a cool, fun vampire flick.
I’m saying even if that stuff bothers you, you may still enjoy this one because that’s not what it’s about at all. But if you can’t even get over the fact that it is set during that time period, I’m not sure what to say to that.

This movie was okay. It was better when I saw it the first time and it was titled, "From Dusk Til Dawn."

If a black director is involved in anything other than an outright bomb, we are encouraged to act like the movie is on the same level as The Godfather. It is all so tiresome.

A husband being proud of his wife isn't really something that I'm going to hate on him for.
If any one of our friends came out and said this we would make fun of him and rag on him all year.

I swear some of y’all loathe women.
Also, haven’t seen the movie but she’s been in the industry for a minute and it’ll end up being a big break for her.

There are obvious similarities to FDTD. But I think the first half of Sinners is way better than FDTD. The vampire parts of both movies are awesome IMO. But Sinners is basically an updated version of FDTD, with a stronger first half.

She’s been in the industry for a while but is definitely hitting another peak.
