family history of heart problems. His dad died at 35 of a heart attack. His brother also had one.
I’m surprised he didn’t die earlier weighing what he did and working like he did.
Didn’t really show how much drinking he was doing but implied that he drank ALOT.

Yup, thank God we had him as long we did really.

Watched it last night. Watched a lot of his stuff in the past but didn't know about his outside life other than he was a big guy of course. Didn't realize he and the dad both had heart attacks. Honestly surprised he lived as long as he did.
Was obviously very talented and funny, and still makes it kind of sad how short his life was. Dude was so kind, gentle, heart-felt, and selfless.
Never really knew about Second City Television, but had no idea how many funny big names were on there: Eugene Levy, Rick Moranis, Martin Short, Joe Flaherty, Catherine O'Hara, etc.

Watched it Sunday. It was really good, loved seeing the family photos and I never knew about him and Gretzky buying a CFL team.
Did it sound like his son was bitter about his dad being gone a lot? Seemed a bit like it to me the way he talked, but I could also understand it too.

Watched it with the wife (no pics) this past weekend. John Candy had a genuine soul. One of the few in Hollywood. And the hurt you see in his face when interviewers brought up his weight….makes you want to punch them right in the mouth.

Forgot this was coming out last week. I will try to watch it either this week or this weekend.

Filming in Mexico exacerbated problems due to altitude and pollution IIRC.
Same reason Marty Feldman died during the filming of Yellowbeard, which was a heart attack mistakenly believed to be shellfish poisoning at the time.
While filming in Mexico may have been cheap for productions, it sure fricked with the actors between thin air, pollution, Montezuma’s Revenge, etc.

I think he was more just upset that he didn’t really know his father, given he was such a little kid when he died.
I guess that basically qualifies as bitter

Just finished. Hat an absolute loss. What a treasure he was. I always mention John Candy in my top 5 actors of all time. I normally get a laugh or an eye roll…. But at his peak he was truly the best. Could make you laugh and cry in the same scene. He was the genuine article…
RIP

The Macaulay Culkin part when he said Candy was one of the only people to show concern towards him was really impactful.

Watched this last night and it's really good. Hard to believe he died over 30 years ago. And he was only 43; I'll be 46 next month. Pretty crazy to think about.
I think I'm gonna watch some movies of his I've either never seen (PT&A and Summer Rental) or haven't seen in decades (Uncle Buck).

Wow, I can't believe you've never seen PT&A. A great movie

Looking forward to this. Candy was my guy as a kid. Can’t tell you how many times I watched Uncle Buck

SCTV was hilarious. I loved this as a kid. I still need to watch this JC documentary, but I saw this comment and had to reply to it. Go find these episodes, crack out on them and enjoy. I think I will do the same

Not sure if this was in the doc (haven't had the courage to watch it yet), but I was just reminded of this clip I saw a while back.

John Candy movies are like comfort food for me. Whenever I might feel down, The Great Outdoors, PTA, or Uncle Buck always seems to find its way on my tv. It's pretty sad how down on himself he was considering he gave others so much joy.

Very very touching moment Martin describing deleted dialog from PTA. It really got to him. I also have a yearly Thanksgiving eve tradition of watching that movie. Also him in Stripes enduring basic training after saying he enlisted to lose weight so that he could become a lean mean fighting machine!

Steve Martin was in the documentary. Most if not all of the clips in the X post were at some point shown in the documentary.

This is the dialog that was deleted.
