This is the most intense, irrelevant debate I've seen in quite some time.

So is Harry Potter alive in 2020? Why doesn't he go back in time and prevent his parents from getting killed now that he can?

Plot is second to character development.

Plot holes are a poor man's capabilities of a cogent movie review. Something we've abandoned in the last decade or so. Even editors consider continuity second to a good take.

I appreciate y'all taking the time away from the Quidditch fields to keep us up to date.

Actually it is more interesting than more TLJ or comic book threads - so carry on.

Government regulation most likely and Potter is kinda of the police to stop people from doing such things.

Government just doesn't let me borrow military equipment to take out my issues.

Various time travel paradoxes come into play there. Un-caused cause being one. Meaning, if you go back in time to change/prevent an event and you succeed in preventing said event, you have no reason to go back in time to prevent said event. Which, I suppose, would lead to alternate timeline shenanigans.

But, within the story and from the link you provided, which I don't believe you fully read/comprehended, all Ministry timeturners had been destroyed and never replaced and the other two were secret, black market pieces.

One got put into "evidence" after an arrest then stolen, used, and destroyed, and the other served as a bit of deus ex machina to get the heroes to the endgame of the story, which did involve a bit of a dilemma in regards to rescuing the Potters, if my memory serves.

So, to recap...in 2020, most all were destroyed and Harry didn't know about the two secret ones until being involved in the plot of the play's story.

I like to pretend that the cursed child doesn’t exist at all.

She should be more concerned about having made a terrible protagonist who is unintelligent, lazy, and reckless with the lives of his friends and his loved ones. He only survives because his mommy loves him and all of his friends always bail him out of trouble.

Harry sucks.

The true hero is Hermione - hot, talented, and hard-working.

Yeah...I'm with you there. I was highly disappointed in the story. A whole plot based on time travel was a bad idea.

It felt like bad fan fiction from start to finish. None of the characters were quite right. The new ones were childish even by HP standards. The plot itself was the worst part of all, especially the alternate realities like the one where we are supposed to believe that Ron suddenly doesn't have a thing for Hermione anymore simply because she never has a thing for Krum. Cringy af.

Those are definite issues. I think I had problems with both the story itself and it being presented as a play script.

I read the first book of the play that came out, which I believe was the rehearsal script. I know they were supposed to release the final script as a special edition book or something, so maybe some things changed or were tightened up in that.

Nope.

Maybe it plays better being acted out. But actually reading what is going on and what is said does not work at all. I was serious when I said I like to pretend it didn't really happen in the universe. It cheapens the books greatly. As if there would even be another way for Voldemort to return... or that he had a kid... or that Ron's feelings for Hermione were so cheap... and on and on.
