Yep. 2 or three changes of clothes (at least tops; no one sees the pants) are requested in case you get on a run.

I'd assume they want to limit that to the college tournament, when the student all wear their college sweatshirts...

Watching this teacher's tournament makes it clear how good of a player James is. These are all smart people and are missing questions left and right.

Eh, not so much.

I've talked with fellow Jeopardy! contestants and others, and the dirty little secret is this: the Teachers Tournament is an obvious step below regular Jeopardy! in terms of question difficulty and contestant ability/knowledge. It's why they have their own category of play, like for teens or college undergrads.

On a rising scale of ability/question difficulty, I'd say it would be about like this:

Teen Tournament

Celebrity Jeopardy!

College Tournament/
Teachers Tournament

Regular Jeopardy!

Tournament of Champions.

You think celebrity Jeopardy is more difficult than Teen?

Yeah, but not by much.

It's funny as all hell to watch celebrity tournaments. The ones who make a living of appearing to be knowledgeable (newsmen, pundits, etc.) are usually the dimmest bulbs, while a 'jock' like Aaron Rogers beats them (I know he went to Cal-Berkeley, but still...)

Wolf Blitzer vs. Andy Richter was a classic.

I also found out after I got there that (1) seersucker doesn't work on TV; the stripes created a weird visual effect (so I changed into my blue blazer) and (2) couldn't wear the Tabasco tie I had on as it was considered advertising (so I switched to a Monet tie I brought).

Seersucker and a Tabasco tie? Did you throw a thick drawl in for good measure?

This is a 2015 interview with a Jeopardy! clue writer (that I just saw posted on reddit): LINK

Discusses the tournaments and question difficulty.

I saw a panel this morning of three people who lost to James. One member of the panel, Robin Falco, was salty as hell. The other two, the guy who came closest to beating him and the gal from Lafayette, had a lot of respect for James.

The guy who almost beat him said that after the taping James went into the audience and gave the guy’s son a high five and said how proud he should be of his dad.

As for Falco, I probably wouldn’t have gotten along with her myself.

Good man, thanks for the reminder. I always forget to tune in so I set an alarm to remind me until James loses.

Appearing on CNN’s New Day Monday, Robin Falco — who took on Holzauer in his 16th game — slammed the game show phenom for taking the joy out of the experience.

“He turned it into his job,” Falco said. “He took a year off from his job — that’s what he told me — to just focus on and perfect this. This is a game! This is a fun experience! And when it comes to dealing with him, it was not.”

CNN’s John Berman asked Falco to elaborate on Holzhauer’s not making the game fun.

“I made no secret of the fact that James and I did not get on backstage,” she said. “I did not feel he was respectful to me. He wasn’t respectful to a lot of the other people, to the staff, I felt. And he doesn’t have the respect for the game. It wasn’t what we were expecting. It’s not what we prepared for.”

If she won't provide any examples, she just comes off as bitter and needs to STFU. That being said, I can completely understand why someone would disrespect her. After listening to her for all of 5 seconds, I wanted to punch her in the face. What an aggravating woman.

Interesting. I'm sure it's frustrating to finally get your shot on J! and have to go against someone who's making a full time career out of trivia contests and betting.

But I probably would have skipped the personal comments. It's funny how she said "no secret that we didn't get on backstage," as if anyone knows who she is.

Sure, it's got to be frustrating, but that's the game you play. The Lafayette chick said that she didn't think anyone could beat James H playing in the traditional manner of taking lower dollar questions first. She wasn't upset about that. She was also certainly correct. But every one of those people went into that studio to try to win. The fact that they just happened to get paired up against the best player of all time is the luck of the draw. No need to be salty about it.

Bingo. That was a really strange comment.
