I guess anything is possible, but the chick who won wrote her master's thesis on Jeopardy! strategy. She was no slouch, and neither was the 3rd Place finisher.

I'm wondering if they intentionally put two strong players against him at once. If the middle guy had been weak, the Champ would've had a much better chance of taking on the gal.

The three of them left only one question unanswered and they all got Final Jeopardy correct.

What was up with his final jeopardy wager?
He made exactly the right wager. The gal is the one who made kind of a stupid wager - she should have bet it all.

As most people are likely aware, buzzer ability is the primary relevant skill. This chick seemed like she was perhaps more of a buzzer prodigy than either Holzhauer or Jennings, which is saying something.

My first reaction to him getting the Daily Double on the 1st question of the game is that it was bad luck, but I've revised that view based on the girl's buzzer ability.

About 90% of Jeopardy! is thumb wrestling. This isn't Twenty-One from the '50's where only vast knowledge determines success.

You mean the rigged quiz show that resulted in a Senate investigation?

I saw James on a podcast where he said playing video games and Guitar Hero probably helped him with the buzzer.

James is unreal. his FJ get percentage is just astronomical. i always assumed he would lose in a non runaway game where he held the lead and missed final jeopardy.

him getting the first DD on the first clue of the game and getting neither of the DD in DJ was certainly another recipe to make it happen.

we were spoiled as the champion now misses final jeopardy on the very next game. James has insinuated that she does quite well, though, so that could be fun. frick, i wanted this to go on much longer.

Charles Van Doren passed away a couple of months ago, but Herbert Stempel is still alive and gives an interesting interview here.

Good game today. If the second place finisher gets his second DD he would have won.

She’s good but I think she missed more clues in that game than James missed his entire run

She's killing it today. Going into Double Jeopardy with both opponents in the negative numbers.

Guy does all the work, earns more than 2 million dollars and the state of California and the federal government claim half his earnings as their share.

Government is legalized thuggery.
