Is “UP” the saddest animated kids movie ever?

I understand that a lot of people like it, but I think it’s far too emotional of subject matter for kids. And flat out depressing for anyone I suspect that is over 50.

As a piece of art that is meant to elicit emotion, it’s amazing. But incredibly sad.

All dogs go to heaven, especially when you know what happened to the little girl in real life

Land before time was rough too

Yeah I saw the intro while my grandmother was in hospice care (we were close) and never finished the movie. Don't care to either. It brings back a lot of emotions I've tried to bury.

Yeah, that opening was a tear jerker. The ending of Toy Story 3 also got to me pretty good. My son was the age of Andy in those movies and we dropped him off at his college the week after we saw it.

Coco always gets me.

My kid and I just bought the Up Lego house but haven't built it yet, might throw it on tomorrow and build while we rewatch it.

Yeah i never could finish UP. First scene hit too hard at the time. Maybe I will try again.

Coco is a great movie, but I need a box of tissues.

It is not a full film, but The Little Matchgirl is a Disney short film released in 2006. It’s fricking brutal.

Secret of NiMH is my go-to for saddest kids movie. There's a ton going on in that flick. UP is phenomenal, though.

Seems like very few people have ever seen this movie but it's very depressing.

The film was originally released unrated in the United States, but for its DVD release, was re-rated PG-13 by the MPAA for mature themes such as animal cruelty, violent imagery, and emotionally distressing scenes.

Rowf, a labrador-mix, and Snitter, a smooth fox-terrier, are two of many dogs used for experimental purposes at an animal research facility in the Lake District of north-western England. Snitter has had his brain surgically experimented upon (leaving the top of his head scarred and covered with bandages), while Rowf has been drowned and resuscitated repeatedly.

I’ve always viewed it completely the opposite way.

Yes, the montage near the beginning is sad and emotional. Sure. But the entire point at the end of the movie is that when he flips through her journal book thing, he discovers filled out pages that he never knew existed. So while he was toiling over them not going to the Falls and feeling like he let her down (and almost feeling like a failure because of it), he actually finds out that in her eyes she had a wonderful life with him because he was her “adventure.”

So to me, not only is it not sad, but it’s incredibly sweet and awesome.

every married couple should watch Up. It is as uplifting a look at a lifelong relationship as has ever been made, and a good lesson on how to stay feeling young even when you aren’t

adventure is where you find it, and what you are willing to offer in order to make it your own

Coraline is one film that caused a stir of emotions when I saw it. I felt this weird mixture of depression, sadness, and anxiety when I saw it for its re-release several years ago. I don’t think I’ve ever felt a mix of emotions like that from an animated kids movie before.

I’m not sure I’d classify “Up” as a “kid’s movie”. It was just animated…
