I agree. Mad Men is about as real as it gets in portraying that time period that I grew up in.
Excluding mini-series, there aren't many shows I would rate above it.

I see you read the title and not the body.

Pete ended up getting out of Manhattan and being happy when at the first of the show he was old Manhattan and couldn't even drive a car.

He only got happy because Leer threw a shite ton of money and perks at him. He hated the NYC suburbs.

I didn’t start it until it came out on Netflix. I was hooked from the 1st episode. I guess being a mid-30’s divorcee, I tried to emulate Don Draper.

Still love it. I rewatched at least 8 times.

They were workaholics because they all hated their home life.

I like the original Sterling Cooper era. Think the storylines got weaker after that. Acting and production values stayed top notch though.

It’s a great show but if somebody goes in with the binge watch mentality they are in for a disappointment

I hate binge watching btw

I love Mad Men. It’s a guilty pleasure.

I do a total rewatch every 2-3 years.

I think it's probably the greatest show of all time, although not my personal #1.

The attention to detail and the subtle themes are incredible.

The finale was even quite a twist - especially if you are of a certain age.

Loved it when it first came out and occasionally rewatch it.

Elite show that pretty accurately shows the culture of the 60s.

Pete not knowing how to drive a manual, a 1969 Z28 btw, always makes me laugh.

Unlike many however, I hated the ending beyond the Coke commercial itself. That was a nice bow for people that were around in the 70s, but the commune setting was ridiculous.

Why? Essalen was a major thing back then. Given the show's repeated use of California - both symbolically and literally - I thought it was exactly right.

I tried starting it many years ago, thought it was boring.

He got happy because he finally figured out he was happiest with his wife and child. Pete was unhappy about everything before that.

He thought he was from a family of both wealth and status. When his dad died he found out he wasn't wealthy.

The rest? Meh.

1st season is boring. Dull. Entire episode about getting into Cooper's office. It looks pretty. The style is cool but there is NOTHING going on.

It isn't until the second season when things pick up and you haven't lived until you see Roger Sterling singing in black face in season 3.

For those throwing shade at the ineffably great Mad Men:

“I don’t think about you at all.”

Be warned. If you say you don't love the show, you will be told it is too smart for you. The Madmen brigade are insufferable but nothing compared to the too smart for you clowns who live and breathe Arrested Development.

Yeah... I went there.

I am genuinely curious though as it broadcasted right before binging shows online got really big if that could be a factor for some folks. I don't think I could've watched it back to back to back but need to sit with the episodes sometimes after the fact.

I didn't have DVR back then, but AMC used to do something like 5 episode marathons on Saturday. Those helped me catch and figure out what was going on.

But for people who are used to the current streaming formula where you introduce characters for 4 episodes, set up some action, big twist, and then cliffhanger on the 8th/final episode of the season, that's not how it works. I think Season 3 ended on the biggest cliffhanger. Apparently, they didn't know if they were getting renewed from season to season, so there were several season finales written as if they might be the series finale.
