I watched the sandlot last night with my niece and nephew. It was their first time to see it. They were mesmerized.

Even at 40 years old, I found myself laughing at some of the same parts I laughed at as a kid

It’s funny. It’s heartwarming. They use a few curse words, but even those are delivered well so it doesn’t seem too harsh for children.

The writing is excellent. The acting was really good given the age of the actors.

Overall, one of the great coming of age comedies of all time.

I am also a huge Stand By Me fan and The Sandlot is number two on my list coming of age stories

Do you consider Stand by Me a kids movie?

Sandlot is amazing too though.

No. It’s coming of age story. I think Sandlot fits both categories. That was part of my point. Not only is Sandlot a kids movie, it also fits in a deeper category.

Great point.

I've got one that could straddle the line but its not a classic or anything.

Snack Shack

ETA: Superbad's a good one

Yes. It's a perfect kids movie.

I've said that for over a decade now on this board

I mean it' a near perfect movie for me not even counting it at as kids movie. Tons of sentimental value for me because I watched it all the time as a kid and my childhood int he 90's was about as close to the sandlot as you could get. So I'm partial. I don't have any kids, but I honestly think one of the things I'd look forward to the most is showing my kid The Sandlot for the first time.

I have a buddy that has two teenage daughters and his wife won't let their girls watch it because it says shite

The 90s was THE era for kids movies that were great for adults too. So many from that era have lived on as great movies that stand the test of time.

Haha yeah I guess both of mine are more teen and not kids movies.

I thought of Goonies too but is that considered coming of age or just a kids adventure movie?

There was a plethora of great preteen movies during that era. Rad, Airborne, Karate Kid, etc. pic an obscure sport kids played and there was a great movie about it.

Doesn’t exist for today’s youths. It’s sad.

This thread is not about underrated movies.

But no. The Big Green sucked.

Along with “The Goonies” and “The Boy Who Could Fly” and “adventures and babysitting” and “ Never-ending story” and “Rocky IV”
