From what I've read on here the main guy in Human Centipede 2 is the most despicable character ever written. But I can't be sure because I'm not watching that garbage.

SPOILERS

Ramsay is so evil he made Theon sympathetic. That's saying a lot.

in that case Emperor Palpatine...he is worse than Joffrey. As far as I know Joffrey never destroyed entire civilized planets to watch the fireworks.

Nope. At least Palpatine is actually somewhat likeable in his despicableness. He's truly evil, loves it, and can back his shite up with true power. I never had an utmost loathing of Palpatine. Joffrey is just a punk. Palpatine also never held up a crossbow to someone as he forced his hooker to beat the other one to death.

Well, at least he seems competent in the acts he does. That's really what drives me over the edge about Joffrey is his complete lack of competence and just being a little twat. Say what you will about some of the most despicable villains like Amon Goeth, Captain Vidal, Nurse Ratched, Anton Chigurh, etc., but you have to admit that these villains were admirable in their competence and many of their other qualities. Joffrey is just there not because he's earned it in any way, shape or form, but because he's a little shite who just happened to get away with it and continues to do so. Without an army, Joffrey is not to be feared remotely, unlike many of the other great villains (whether it be psychologically or otherwise). He's a coward and that's not a common trait of a great villain. And as much as I hate to say it, Joffrey Baratheon is a GREAT villain. He really knows how to press your buttons, which is more than I can say for the vast majority.

I think that was somewhat implied. Either that happened or Joffrey killed them both with a crossbow.

Joff is near the top for sure, and Ramsey definitely is later on

Delores Umbridge and William Hamleigh (Pillars of the Earth) are two other really great villains that come to mind outside of ASOIAF

You could say the same for Amon Goeth IMO. Goeth had a certain charm that made him a great villain. Joffrey is entirely one-dimensional, which makes him despicable but not that great of a villain.

Yeah, the charm keeps him going, but he was just a pure embodiment of the system, while Joffrey is not. Joffrey is just a great villain because of how unbelievably despicable he is. He's completely one-dimensional for sure, but I haven't seen a character this despicable and actually work before. The only other ones I can think of are Buffalo Bill and Dolores Umbridge.

Does that kid bring in pregnant women and perform a live abortion in front of the Iron Throne and then execute them? That's the only way I could see him being worse than Joffrey.

Just a sneak peak from the HBO site, this is his coat of arms.

I present to you:

Mrs. Danvers from Rebecca.

and

Baby Jane. This would be my vote for most despicable.

What do you expect from someone who is born out of incest

Probably explains a lot. Joffrey is a demented Momma's boy who by now probably realizes that he is bastard born out of lust between his mother and his Uncle Jamie. He's a puppet under his grandfather's power and compensates for his inadequacy by over exerting his limited influence within his immediate surroundings. He hates women and likely blames his mother for his weakness and illegitimate birth which has become common knowledge throughout the realm. Sansa should have pushed his arse off the gangplank when she had a chance.
