Is Jefferey Wright’s “Commisioner Gordon” been the only acceptable DEI/woke hire?

I actually think he knocked it out of the park in The Batman, and it didn’t distract from the movie considering the character has been all white in almost, if not all, instances of the character being on the big screen.
I bring this up in response to the Odyssey threads (black Cleopatra and a trans potential-Achilles).
Jefferey’s Commissioner Gordon hasn’t received as much hate. I remember him getting it early on, but after the movie released, it really died down.

No one complained about Lando playing black Harvey Dent but dei/woke wasn't a thing back then

Morgan Freeman in Shawshank

Or Sam Jackson playing Nick Fury

I remember that.
Wasn’t he set to become Two Face if Tim Burton had down a third movie?
His Dent role wasn’t that big of I recall. Was he even in the second movie?

I wasn’t even aware of this. That’s pretty cool.

acceptable DEI/woke hire
Pretty sure he was brought in to check boxes (Gay and Black). Just turned out to be a super dedicated fan of the source material, and crushed

He’s not commissioner yet

I don’t know if Idris Elba as the Norse god Heimdall is woke, or DEI, because he is excellent in said role.

We already had a thread on this.
Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington. Pick a role.
It's not the race, it's the actor.

Almost the entire cast of One Piece. They even have a troon and that show is awesome.

quote:BS. It's the role. Jeffrey Wright is great in a supporting role as Commissioner Gordon, but would you be OK with any black actor playing Batman? Even a young Denzel or Will Smith in their prime? This board would have a stroke. Color blind casting is only acceptable here if the roll isn't that important. Don't pat yourself on the back for letting Idris play Heimdall. Let him play Thor, then we'll see.

It definitely is and the Norwegians were not happy about it.

Wright is a damn good actor. He looked the part after the first trailer. I don't think anyone was complaining after that.

Of course that's a huge part of it. The more major the role the more people have a history with the character and they want the movie/whatever to stay true to the source material. And if a character is a minor one then they have less of that idea in their head. This isn't that complicated.
Peter Parker is a youngish, slim white kid. Stan Lee was pretty damned white but it would have been silly for him to play Peter Parker because he was an old man.

Who said it was acceptable? Just because he's a good actor doesn't mean it was a good idea. I'm sick of race-swapping in movies and TV.

Love the actor but he is not Heimdall

Judy Dench as M in Bond was acceptable.
Wright as Felix Leiter as well.

Great examples where gender and race was not the central identity of the character nor the source of their woes.
