is Deadpool a certified untouchable movie on here? If not, let's critique it
Posted by mizzoukills on 8/2/16 at 1:27 pm

I saw Deadpool for the first time about a month ago. At that time I was banned so I couldn't post my review on here.
This was my experience:
I was extremely hyped to see this movie due to all the great national publicity it received, the awesome reviews on rottentomatoes, and the universal love it receives on this site.
I rented the movie, put the kids to bed, popped some corn and opened up a Sam Adams. I just had a strong feeling that Deadpool was going to be my favorite movie of the year. I even had my wife sold on it and she HATES superhero movies (but she loves Ryan Reynolds).
We started the movie.
Thirty minutes later my wife was asleep and I was struggling to find the humor. Sure, it had funny moments, but most of the movie it felt like Ryan Reynolds was just trying TOO hard to constantly be funny. The comedy felt extremely forced and it didn't take long before I was annoyed by it.
On the other hand the action and special effects were great! Also, the chick is incredibly hot. It wasn't just the chick who was hot, her character was hot too. No complaints here.
But let's get back to the complaints. How does Deadpool go from normal human mercenary one minute to a flip twisting gymnast the next minute? Those gymnast moves would take years to learn. Sure, he becomes a mutant who can heal from anything. But that doesn't explain how he can jump 15 feet into the air and accurately shoot people between the eyes while doing advanced (if not superhuman) gymnastics flips and twists.
Stupid.
Overall I was mostly let down by this movie. Perhaps the extreme hype ruined it for me. I don't know. I wanted Deadpool to be much more than the movie I saw. What I saw was an okay movie. Nothing more.

It's an Ok film. I think people enjoyed it being R rated, it was a bit different from Marvel's family friendly films. It is very overrated.

Some people don't love his dry humor but it fits Deadpool. Personal preference I guess.

They never showed his abilities before the tests were done on him. Maybe he could do all that before.
Sounds like Deadpool (the character) might not be your cup of tea. IMO they had a clear vision of the character and nailed it.

No human can jump 15 feet into the air and shoot someone between the eyes while flipping and twisting.

No human can but a mutant surely can. Maybe he was pretty agile before the tests and they enhanced those abilities. Super agility, speed and strength are all mutant-like abilities along with regenerative cells.

Maybe our reality is nothing but a simulation.
Perhaps the lizard people do in fact rule the Earth.
Maybe pigs can fly!

In the comics they pump him full of Wolverine's blood, but in the movie he was already a badass assassin. They probably just enhanced his already great abilities, regardless this is really nitpicking

You missed the satire. Deadpool has become a satirical look at comics, and the writers over time have done a fantastic job of both crafting great character driven stories while also poking fun at the superhero world, its inhabitants and even the character himself.
For christ's sake, did you not notice him talking to the audience the entire time? What person knows their life is not real and proceeds to talk to all humans watching his falsely crafted adventures? Come on, man. You need to lighten up and not take everything so seriously

To be fair I've never been a comic book nerd.
But, I do enjoy a good superhero movie.
Are you saying that pretty much the only people who "get" Deadpool are the comic book nerds who are already familiar with Deadpool?
If so, that's fair.

Deadpool honestly wasn't that good. It's odd because it got universally praised and it's really a mediocre movie.
Much like uncharted 4 for PS4

Anyway it's a freaking superhero movie about a superhero who was created to almost be like a parody of superheroes. It's supposed to be ridiculous which is what makes it interesting and awesome.

Although it really wasn't. His whole thing is that he breaks the 4th wall and is a parody of a superhero. The comics are way better than the film. The film got a few aspects right but it wasn't groundbreaking by any means. The best thing they did was make it rated R and even that just allowed them to use the F-word more and it became boring.
