I get that all the events potentially happen at the same time, but 45 seconds of explanation would have at least explained it. Hell, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Fury have jack shite going on and they weren't even in the movie at all.
I kind of looked at it as it was personal for IM. That and his ego. He didn't need to ask for help.

I saw this over the weekend.
I am really disappointed in how underwhelming this movie was. The story was not as airtight as you would like any good movie to be. It had more than a few plotholes and the twist on the mandarin was meh. It wasn't really that shocking to me IMO. I really didn't like how the fire dudes could easily handle an Iron man suit after he showed in 3 other movies that the suit could take anything.
There was not enough Iron Man in this movie. Tony was Iron Man for like a grand total of 15-20 minutes in this movie. I felt like this movie was really about Tony Stark instead of Iron Man. Any good superhero movie should have a 65% Superhero to 35% secret identity ratio playing out in the movie IMO.
But still, this was a decent movie with entertaining action and a lot of funny jokes and sequences that made me chuckle. It's just disappointing that the storyline is not as tight and good as I would like it to be.

I didn't like the backup plan, or the clean house protocol.
I don't want to talk plot here, but I liked the first one a lot better. The previews made it out to be cooler than it was

So a God, a superhuman, and a green goliath are going to turn to a 40 something year old guy whose only two "gifts" are wealth and intelligence now?
Uh, they all would have died in the Avengers if that 40 something year old didn't save the day.

If they give Stark/RDJ a reduced role in the new Avengers, it will be a snorefest.
Lack of suits/powers notwithstanding, he's the only character that has any personality to speak of.
I was surprised at the backlash this movie received. Wasn't anything special, but it wasn't any worse than the other two. The suits did seem a little underpowered this time, but thats a minor complaint.

Rebecca Hall who plays the scientist in the flashback would have been 17 in 1999.

Am I the only one that heard the part where Jarvis tells tony that they just got the cranes to the house to clear the ruble? That's why he couldn't get the suits any sooner than the final battle.
I didn't hear that. That line actually does help somewhat. Still kind of lame that 30 Iron Man suits can't escape a bunker, but at least they acknowledge the issue.

I heard the line but wondered the same thing especially when one is a Hulk Buster.

I'm not reading this whole thread, but has it been pretty well covered how terrible this movie was?

superficial had a pretty good summary of the movie. I agree with most points. I don't shite on this movie, truth is I still enjoyed it but it could have been better and there were several glaring plot holes that could have been avoided with 1 minute of dialog.

It's really not a terrible movie. I don't know why some people just can't enjoy the movie. I guess theres always going to be people that bitch and nitpick every little thing wrong with it. It will definitely be one of the highest grossing films this year.

Then why didn't they? Iron Man waited until the very last second to do it.

I think one thing was done really well, and that was the development of Tony Stark. All the anxiety attacks, him not being able sleep, just seems like what would happen to a normal human who was fighting aliens in the last movie.
But it killed Mallen and the Mandarin, made the Iron Man suit too weak, and the cast was disappointing.

I thought it was a fun popcorn flick which is all I want out of an Iron Man movie.
Some really nit picky complaints in this thread IMO. Did I like everything about it? No.
But this movie is nowhere near the level of shite some are making it out to be.

I'll add my 2 cents after seeing it with the family on Sunday, though honestly it's only one issue.
They baited and switched the audience. I don't necessarily mean just the Mandarin twist, I mean the whole tone. The trailers lead movie goers to believe the movie was going to be tonally different...darker, more real risk to Tony, actual loss, etc. Instead...we got the idiotic twist with the Mandarin, him doing his PTSD routine which always seemed to be less serious because of RDJ's comedic timing than they seemed to mean it to be, his palling around with the kid in Tennessee, etc. I realize they could not have given away the Mandy twist in the trailers...but why even use that character if you're going to neuter him like that? Why make the trailer that tone if what you're going to do is something totally different? See the trailers for Man of Steel. If it turns out the actual movie is full of one liners and slap stick comedy like portions of the Richard Donner Supes movies were, I'm going to be pissed...because they've primed me to expect something else. Same here. This movie could have been really epic, and instead it was as Tony Stark described himself to Pepper early in the movie...a hot mess.
Still didn't hate it, but it's my least favorite of the Marvel movies to date.

Saw it last night. It was alright. Not as good as the first movie, better than the second.
RDJ did a great job as Tony Stark, the story was kind of lame IMO.

Worst Marvel Studios movie. Movie reminded me of X Men 3 and I hated that movie. Jon Favreau needs to lose some weight. Dude is huge now.

Sorry but there is no way this is worse than x men 3. That movie was boring as frick IMO. RDJ's performance alone makes this movie better. This was still a solid superhero Iron man movie with some thrilling action. Not sure what people expect out of this. Some ocsar worthy picture? Give me a break. I know it's just some people's opinion but this movie is not anywhere near bad. The whole Iron Man trilogy is legit.
