Strange saw the one way they could win.
I don't think it's coincidence that we saw Thanos as someone with deep regrets, and admiration for courage.
Just my opinion, Strange saw they could never beat him in a fight. Thanos had to win, and taste what his victory would lead to. He saw Gamora as a child again, and he seemed to really have a soft spot for her.
He's won, and it will feel hollow and empty to him. And he has the power to rewind it and do it over.
This is EXACTLY what I took from it

Why couldn’t he just use the gauntlet to make more food?
Problem solved
In the comics, his desire to erase half the universe stems from Mistress Death. Death wanted half the universe erased because more people lived in it than had ever been killed. Death thought this was an imbalance and used Thanos to correct for it.
My wife asked the same question about just creating resources with the power of the gauntlet.
Obviously the comic book explanation makes more sense - but only if you buy into the concept of personification of death as a character that can be courted.
I wonder if the comic book version was judged to be a potentially harder concept to sell across cultures and that resulted in the re-imagination of Thanos' primary motivation?
Setting aside the issue of Death as a character (that can be courted) probably did make the movie more accessible to more people - and it allowed the relationship between Thanos and Gamora to be explored more deeply in a way that moved many viewers.

Why is no one talking about Silvestri's score? It was sort of fantastic. The action scenes drown it out, but he brought it every thread, and still made something his own.
When the credits rolled and I saw Silvestri's name, I thought it made sense. The score throughout was phenomenal. So good in fact that I was taken aback by there only being two songs listed in the credits.

I actively looked for the Infinity War album on Spotify yesterday and its there but only has short versions of the songs.
Or maybe they are just short, to begin with. Either way, it was really good!

You might want to go take one last piss now during the previews.

The soundtrack is on Google play already, listening at work right now

good article on what was touched on earlier with MCU vs DCEU
quote:
Tom Holland's Spider-Man has had a bit more screen time than Henry Cavill's Superman, but even though we know another Spidey movie's on the horizon, his death was much more of a heartbreaker than Superman's. We made a place for him, for T'Challa, for Drax and Gamora, because as hokey as it is, they were afforded warmth.
Batman v Superman obviously had no interest in presenting warm characters. And Justice League was so lost it's impossible to know what the intent was beyond salvaging intellectual property. So it should in turn surprise no one that Infinity War is likely to drum up more business in its first US weekend then Justice League did in its whole run. The 10 years of history the MCU has built up certainly helps, but so should the 80 years of Superman and the 75th anniversary of Batman and Wonder Woman.
quote:
Or maybe it's because the respect for those characters' histories isn't what the DCEU was founded upon. Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman deviated from fan expectations, undermining what we expected and wanted from these characters. Pa Kent was a jerk. Superman showed little concern for bystanders. Batman sent a dude to his death.

I wasn't really familiar with the Black Order but after reading up on them I am a little bummed out they did not have a scene showing them off a bit more.

Is that the one where the two Nazi soldiers have a discussion on if maybe THEY are the bad guys?

That's what I was thinking, but it's early for Summer camp and it's not really a movie for little kids to see without their parents.

Everybody doesn't die at the end of Black Panther. You need an adult nearby to explain to the kid that Spider-Man will be back.
