Just going over the opening scene again in my head reminded me how stressed I was during this movie from start to finish

The best I could come up with was that Thanos was Sanctuary II's artillery or the Power stone to destroy the Asgardian ship. Once Thanos decided the ship was incapacitated enough they boarded and either finished off those close to death, like Corvus Glaive was doing, or left the rest to fend for themselves. We figured they may have been on the ship for a few minutes before Maw started speaking.
